I imagine thereās excitement for the increase of activity but worries about the potential toxic side of Reddit coming along too.
Iād especially be interested in the Lemmy devsā opinions.

Iām a lemmygrad user, so itās been a little annoying dealing with people who wander in to troll but itās not too bad
I hope the reddit echo box āour way or the highwayā, āeverything is a punā mentality doesnāt transfer over as well
When someone shares a personal story about his wifeās struggle with cancer and the top reply is āI also choose this guyās dead wifeā
Aww, but Reddit pun threads are fun.
Agreed, I hope there is room for pun threads here too.
Well:
I agree with all of this, except the first point, and thatās the reason Iām leaving a comment rather than a vote:
āRefugeesā arenāt people who ādo not like the appā. I agree that the term is poorly chosen, and offensive to actual refugees who had to leave their lives, home, and a good part of their identity behind, because of a traumatic, catastrophic event; and that āexplatā (for āex-platformā, a play on words with āexpatriatesā) would be a more fitting term, but the āexplatā actually came over because they have never liked the app, except now, it is forced onto them. Moving over isnāt a choice for many, the choice is actually between ānot using any reddit-like service at all anymoreā or āusing what exists aside from redditā. And in that context, I think you can clearly see why the ārefugeeā term came to mind (of privileged people who failed to see the humanitarian implications and the belittling of dramatic experiences and suffering of others).
Sensitivity aside, āexplatā is a more clever name.
