It’s the slur filter. What specifically gets filtered is up to instance admins.

Ok, so this is likely coming from lemmy.ml then, and if I don’t want that, I’ll need to use a different instance. Thank you

It’s called the Sremovedhorpe Problem. On the hexbear instance we have it for a few words, like the Japanese gambling game with the balls (paremovedo). I don’t mind a word filter but sometimes it can be a little too strong, lol.

Lemmy has a slur filter feature that instances can choose to use. It seems that lemmy.ml has it enabled and has a fairly expansive list of what the instance owners consider to be slurs. For example, the “b” word (term for female dog) is censored since it’s a gendered slur.

Edit: removed explicit language in case it gets auto filtered

Same as Reddit, means the comment was removed by mods.

It says deleted when that happens, not removed.

But it isn’t the whole comment, just particular words

You’re seeing words that trigger your community’s language filter, I believe.

This is more of a support question, related to using Lemmy. Please see the sidebar for a list of communities that offer support. Removing under rule #3.

You might want to ask this over at a Sync community. I’ve never seen this on Voyager, Memmy, etc.

That said, do you have a link to an example comment? Also, what does that comment look like when you view it through your instance’s web experience?
