Basically I’m looking for something that’ll help if my car happens to get stolen. Ideally it’d be something I can just set and forget, and doesn’t have a subscription.

Any recommendations?

Nice try, Mr. Stalker.

Stalker? I hardly know 'er!

If your car gets stolen it’s probably preferable to not see it again and get insurance since no telling what’s been done to it/in it.

Only problem is that I owe more than the bluebook value.

If the stealer has an iPhone or airguard they can find and disable them

Tile has stealth mode, you will get sued by them if you do creepy cunt things though

Well I don’t have any nefarious plans but uh i am kinda concerned about why a company would sue an individual for creeping on another individual.

It’s their clause for enabling something that could be one of the biggest breaches of privacy you have to send them I’d and such to enable it. Tile is still pretty niche and they have some great models to pop in places you need to keep tabs on.

I just googled “air tag alternatives” and came back with a bunch of options. You’ll have to see for yourself to see which one fits your needs the best.

burner phone with location enabled, charged via trunk outlet

fedposting free and discrete delivery…

Don’t let anyone tell you Airtag or Tile is the way to go.

You can get under hood or under vehicle trackers connected to battery.

I saw some on Amazon but they required a monthly fee and honestly I’m so sick of subscriptions

You probably need one to send the data somewhere and pay for the mobile data connection.

If you’re genhinely worried your car is going to get lost or stolen the air tag ones won’t help you. If your car is up the bush somewhere or just away from someone with an iPhone you’re SOL.

I spy with my little eye, someone who owns a Kia or Hyundai lol.

Actually no. A mustang.

Well who the hell wants to go through the effort of stealing that piece? Lol.

I have a Smart Tag (Samsung version of the Air Tag) that goes in my luggage when I travel. I quite like it – fairly easy set up with an app, small, battery has lasted me over a year to date. Cost $40

Yeah i think this is the best option for me. I bought one already

Insurance.

They’re useless if there’s no iPhone nearby. It is pretty useless to even keep tabs on my 7yo when she wants to play in the cul de sac because people stay in their homes and the street is not close enough to the phones inside the houses.

A thief can easily detect them with an app.

Don’t even need to buy apple

My insurance device already tracks my car (can be useful in a crowded lot).

The words “insurance device” just made me psychically recoil. Is that a thing?

Unfortunately, yes. It connects to the engine reader and also has a gps. It’s pay per mile but with a cap on per mile charges so nice for people who don’t drive a lot. It costs $30 USD a month generally (which is cheap for my area). Lemonade (the rental insurance company) just bought it out. When I was with Progressive (a big American car insurance company) they offered a similar device though without much of a discount from what I could tell (I did not opt in). It also had a gyro device of some sort to tell if you were an aggressive driver. thought it was creepy at the time but here I am.

Yeah, they plug into your OBD2 port and monitor mileage and driving habits (hard accel, hard braking, hard cornering) in some cases they can result in cheaper insurance.

In general they’re an opt-in thing unless you have horrible driving history.
