They were only for the free market if they could force it on others.

Yeah, it’s amazing how quickly you figure out you’re not logged into your account when you load the homepage. Literally none of the videos that are popular is anything I’d ever consider watching.

The tax point is probably the biggest one. People just want to know what tax bracket you fall into. And it corrects for seasonal variations.

I mean, there’s no vote or anything. It’s just that if you don’t like the moderation policies of one instance, you can just create an account on another one that aligns more with what you prefer.

You know how on Reddit people were always bitching about the mods or admins? With federation, you can choose your mods and admins. Still won’t stop you from getting banned from certain communities, but if mods take it too far, you can just start a community on a different server.

I wouldn’t be opposed to some sort of recommendation algorithm, but it should be in a separate section. Especially for new users it’s hard to find people/lemmits to follow, so it would be useful for that.

Yep, I basically stopped using Facebook when it changed away from that. It also changed in other ways, in that people would be posting about politics and memes instead of just life updates and holiday pictures.

Yep, exactly. With a chronological feed, I can scroll until I know I’m caught up. The algorithmic feed keeps throwing stuff at you and you’re never ‘caught up’. So yeah, great for engagement, but they didn’t actually ask the users how they felt about it.

The sign up process is kind of user hostile (or at least was a couple of months ago, they improved it a lot). People don’t really want to have to figure out which server to sign up to if they barely know what a server is.

They’re probably not talking about the actual conversations on Mastodon (although there’s definitely some condescension there, like if you dare to post an image without alt text they’ll come out).

Ubuntu for personal main laptop/desktop/servers.

For work Mac OS because they made me choose between Windows or Mac.

And it’s not like it’s a surprise that Ben & Jerry’s are ‘woke’. They were part of Bernie Sanders’ campaign.
