No. First of all the tenses are wrong, then the equivalence is wrong.

If people stopped getting murdered, they’d still be killed by illness, parasites, old age, accidents. Basically the loss of life will not stop simply because humans stop taking that life. Are you going to start telling lions not to kill gazelle? Or parasites, viruses, and bacteria not to infest hosts?

Operating systems like Android and ChromeOS have full system mandatory access control, every process from the init process is strictly confined.

To make matters worse, some system daemons are not designed with permission control in mind at all. For example, PulseAudio does not have any concept of audio in or out permission.

There’s also Wayland, which is being written to replace X11. It has better security

While it’s true that many apps aren’t designed with security in mind, flatpak and snap packages have their portals API. The author did mention that they are underutilized, but that’s slowly changing.

Additionally, immutable distros (nixOS, Fedora silverblue) do exist, which make it quite hard for unauthorised applications to modify root partitions since they are mounted as read-only. Mobile NixOS is still in its infancy, but it’s being worked on.

In conclusion, security on linux isn’t hopeless, there are solutions being worked on, and improvements in linux phones will benefit all desktop users, unlike distros like Android and ChromeOS that build custom solutions that aren’t contributed back to the community.

Hasn’t starfield been in the making for ages and even had twitch streamers play officially funded streams? Or is that star citizen (or whatever it’s called). Not sure if they’re the same.

I’ve always been curious about handhelds. The only opportunity I’d have to use them is on the bus to and from work, but I have a mobile phone. And at home there’s a PC. When do people play on these things?

1. English not the first language for about 7.5 billion people on this planet.
2. More people with English as a second or even third language have a higher reading and comprehension level than the average USAian
3. Many people simply do not know how to write correctly, which only exacerbates the problem

Of course first into a bank, a few million in crypto, another few million in ETF, another few million to actual brokers. Then it’s time to start buying up property and renting it out at a fair rate - it’s not like I don’t have money invested elsewhere. All this to diversify investments.

Now the fun part starts: investing in opensource. I’d spend my time making a team to find “critical” places to invest in. Stuff where there’s just little to no competition or the market is dominated by big players. Identify opensource projects that could challenge that dominance and see if groups would want to work on it full time, be it development, marketing, hardware costs, security audits, etc.

And of course travel and do lots of drugs.

And this is one of the many reasons I don’t donate to Firefox. Firefox employees should really fork that project and make it better than what it is now instead of just being Google’s dog + an excuse to pay millions to a single person and hundreds of thousands to random individuals, who have nothing to do with Firefox.

400M in cash could go to a lot of development efforts. They could rewrite Firefox entirely in Rust, make it run on any platform, move the needle on web technologies in a big way, hell, they could make their own damn phone with that kind of money, or even write their own competitor to ChromeOS.

Nah, once it become possible to group communities from multiple instances into one (aka multi-reddit on reddit - needs another name on the fediverse), power mods will have no power. Someone could just create an instance with the same community name and it could end up in the community group.
