One of the interesting conundrums of Linux at large is there are so many flavors of it. If you generically search for ‘how to … In Linux’ you’ll probably get things for Ubuntu, maybe Mint or RedHat, but good luck with the 2000 other distros that you see on a list.

Conversely if you do the same for Windows or Mac it’s just a matter of a few recent versions, and half the time fixes would be applicable to any given one of them.

Compatability is less a problem than missing security patches. Nobody needs an army of infected bots attached to the net.

There’s one in particular who for some undefined reason has been able to essentially say ‘go off and do this thing’ that my own brain said is stupid and impossible, and then I succeeded at doing the thing.

Probably the first example, when I had finally gotten the idea to do some gym work (which she helped at that too) I commented to the effect of maybe I could look at doing a 5k. So she says let’s go do 14k which of course sounded nuts, so we went and did that. Next thing I know I finished a marathon because why not…

Just ask NASA for help, pretty sure they had a solution figured out a while ago or there would be chaos in the cosmos.

You know, hexbear is really a fine example of what you get when the auth right tries to do a parody version of leftists.

It got people to talk about it and take interest in what is going on. There are undoubtedly some portion of the population that are fully oblivious of the world around them, or just indifferent at least, but someone going on for that long has to make them wonder why he would do that.

Stop selling disposable vapes, this is not complicated. I’ve since stopped but first encountered vapes back when they called it e-smoking and the devices where really crude. After a few years they finally got something decently reliable and reusable down and people had their personal device.

I’m not even sure when disposables became a thing but the notion of use one and discard electronics is nuts. The whole industry could do well to come up with some standards so you don’t have to search out some specific model of atomizer to fit a certain piece, but it’s not impossible.

I’m sure there’s something at the state level, found a local ref here. Seems to be one of those laws where it’s illegal if they already wanted a reason to mess with the driver.

Internet culture is a leaky thing. A major chunk of meme and comic formats where born in 4chan and they’ve been adopted virtually everywhere on the web despite coming from a place that takes a certain level of self hate to stomach for any length of time. Lemmy is functionally a clone of reddit right down to the logo similarity. Trying to claim that somehow it’s a different unique corner of the web and exercise in futility.

Jammie Rasset got tagged for $1.9M for sharing 24 songs, so if we extend the per instance to this case I’m pretty sure Meta owes more money than has existed in human history…

I think I get what you mean, but validating the origin of a particular piece wouldn’t do much for verifying the content. So such of the misinfo that’s put out is taking some small snip of a broader story and reframing it in a way that makes the situation out differently.

I’ve read of a couple small places. Was a coffee shop in the cities around here where they guy running it for 20+ years wanted to get out and the staff decided that rather than a new owner they would raise funds to buy it. Sort of run like a direct democracy with some rules based on seniority and such.

Like most anything P2P scale, consistency, and adoption are huge factors.

We’re just chilling watching the show…

I sit at the tail end of it, or as I’ve seen it described ‘xenials’, wishing things would start to make sense again one day.

It’s a nice to have and frankly aside from maybe water resistance there’s no good reason to remove it. The 3.5mm jack has worked since the dawn of portable music, doesn’t require often fickle pairing, and of significant issue to me at least doesn’t have the potential for some future DRM scheme when the media companies decide you have to use their special app to play something. It’s much the same reason I resisted HDMI for as long as possible.

That said, I do use wireless and probabbly would routinely even if the current phone did have a jack, but I would very much like to have it there just for the option to plug a wire in and attach it wherever I feel like. Wouldn’t be the first time an aux port or RCA adapter came in handy.
