Since I’m 57 and have paid some attention to how I’ve changed over the years, perhaps I can add a little insight? Quite frankly, you get tired. I’ve been on the scene since the home computer revolution took off and I’ve seen so many things come and go. It’s not that we can’t learn new forms of communication, etc., but rather that after awhile you start asking yourself why bother when the “next big thing” is going to be another forgotten memory in 5-10 years. It’s not you who are being criticized for wasting items, it’s all the people like you over the years who have collectively wasted so much. Our brains remember all those things and they add up, causing us to fixate on the wrong info (although this last bit isn’t really something that comes with age).

Last night I re-watched The Fifth Element. Afterwards I was thinking about when it first came out in 1997. My god, that’s 28 years ago. I remember things from the 90’s. I remember things from the 80’s and from the 70’s. I remember that after 9/11 the 00’s were boring as fuck. But when you put all of that together, and start thinking about how much you’ve experience… holy hell that’s quite a lot to face squarely. And if I tell you something inappropriate about a co-worker… what? HR will pull me away from the monotony and have a talk with me? Experience tells us what we can get away with, and sometimes it’s fun just to see what people’s reactions are.

So yeah, I’ve observed these things, but I refuse to be pulled down into misery and monotony. Keep yourself busy doing things that you enjoy. Never be afraid to go down the rabbit hole and learn crazy new things. I’m working on assembling a couple swords from parts, looking into bluing some steel pieces I made. And just this week I learned about “rust bluing” which is a crazy concept but is easy to do at home. I learned something new and fun, and I refuse to ever stop learning. I may not care about Instagram or Facebook, but I installed Signal on my phone and I love being able to create my own 3D models and printing them out.

The future is always amazing. Age doesn’t make us care less about it, it just makes us more choosy in what parts are worth investing in. If you don’t want to become a listless old geezer, then don’t… all you need to do is keep enjoying the wonders of the world.

This right here is the main reason why Trump might succeed… The media has been beaten into submission and refuses to report the actual events that are occurring which make Trump look bad.

I’ve have long hair for about 35 years now. I guess mine is wavy too (?) although when it’s humid I’ll get some tight pipe curls. Just tie it back out of the way. Best hair bands I’ve found are made of pantyhose material, they don’t snag or wrap up in your hair. They do come in different sizes so if you have thick hair you can get a larger band.

Regardless, no matter what you do you’ll always eventually get some hair in your food.

Is the 1080p mode just hiding black bars present in the 1200p stream? Could be a stupid gimmick to get people to choose a particular uploader’s torrents.

Tesla has sold quite a lot, yet paid almost nothing in taxes. So obviously it doesn’t work that way for “everyone”.

Let me know when we have some real AI to evaluate rather than products labeled as a marketing ploy. Anyone remember when everything had to be called “3D” because it was cool? I missed my chance to get 3D stereo cables.

Anything to do with money, such as yesterday’s fiasco. As was mentioned in many articles yesterday Congress has the “power of the purse”, meaning they control the budget and taxes (dictated by several parts of Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution). Trump unilaterally decided to stop payment on grants and funds that were already previously approved by Congress.

Airline “crop duster”. And he did loops for me. Take that, all you boring airliners!

They enacted a ban on plastic grocery bags here two years ago to eliminate all the extras being blown across fields. Didn’t help, I still see them blowing down the streets, and lots of people re-using their bags because they’re so much more convenient (plus a lot of people would rather just pay the small tax to use the plastic bags). Who knows, maybe in twenty years all of the bags will be gone, but it’s been a huge hassle for everyone both as consumers and for the stores to re-work their checkout lines because it takes so much more time to use these bags.

We also have a nearby town where they started taxing people for sugary drinks like sodas. Last I heard, it hasn’t changed the amount of purchases by any noticeable amount. People just do their shopping in another town and local stores miss out on the profits.

I imagine for the high fructose, the same thing will happen. People will just pay the tax and not care. This really comes down to being just another tax on the poor which doesn’t have any affect on people who make more money. These bans are slowly taking away every option that poor people can afford, when if anyone really cared about changing people’s habits they would make healthier choices the same price or cheaper than the unhealthy ones. Since I make a decent wage, my wife and I tried eating healthy for a couple months. It nearly broke us because good foods cost so much more. I’m not talking about buying all organic, rather just trying to change the type of foods we ate. My wife did a ton of research to find things that we both thought sounded tasty, and they really were good, but we had no money left over to do anything fun so we spent the whole time sitting at home watching TV.

tl;dr – Real change comes from making healthy choices cheaper, NOT by making unhealthy choices more expensive.

Wow that is some fantastic information, thanks! I’d give you some reddit tokens, but you answer is worth more than that. 😄

No worries, thanks for the update. Yeah that makes sense, we would hope that most people make it through high school, although the way they’re going in some parts of the US by gutting the education and white-washing history (they’re actually trying to teach kids that slavery was a GOOD thing!!!) I feel like in a few years a high school education here is going to be meaningless.

That’s pretty cool! How would someone in another part of the world collect those coins though? Does anyone sell them on ebay or something?

Various countries have coins with holes through them. It may seem mundane to the residents living there, but to those of us with solid coins those look pretty interesting. I’ve also seen some multi-sided coins rather than the typical round ones.

That’s really weird, every one I’ve clicked on went to a live community. I’m using the regular web page, if you’re using an app maybe that is broken?

Or just read the trending communities box at the top of the screen whenever you reload the page. I’ve added several new communities due to seeing something there.

Does it count if I have been keeping a copy of all the Kiwix releases and could submit those documents? It would certainly be one hell of a kickstart.

Otherwise, screw civilization… Here’s how you build and tune a trebuchet (yeah I have a bit of experience with the construction, as long as someone else supplies the rope).

Honestly it comes down to a similar question about whether or not you are living in the Matrix. If you can’t change or control anything, then it doesn’t make a difference. But if you can find a way to hack the system, what could you do with it? I’m enjoying seeing the different theories that everyone has.

I think most of what you’re describing would require focused lucid dreaming, and with #3 it would require that you meet others who are also lucid dreaming? Sure that can be done, but #2 requires you to bring back critical details that the right brain just doesn’t seem to be able to handle. This does give me an idea that might get around that limitation though – what if you could remember images of artwork created in other realities? Basically steal their classic masterpieces (of course I’m still limited in that I cannot paint). And curiously, #1 sounds very much like the descriptions of remote viewing that are supposed to be proof that ESP is real but always fall apart because some details are wrong – exactly what you would expect from an alternate reality though…

Your dreams are a gateway into a parallel universe -- Can you prove it?
Your dreams and imagination evolved as a view into another universe. As with the current beliefs, you cannot decipher technical information -- no words in books, no details of how devices work, so even if you can describe things you see from another place, you could not reproduce a working version. Now how do you convince others that the things your are seeing are really happening without being labeled insane? And how could you use this information to benefit yourself or others? Take a peek into the multiverse to see how other versions of yourself have solved these problems...
