What I’m hearing here though is a greater critique of capitalism than anything. Medicine attempts to resolve situations with drugs first because it’s cheapest and keeps the lights on, and people can’t afford non-drug therapies because they’re poor and overworked. The VA skimps because it’s underfunded and America wants people to fight its imperial wars and then fucks them for doing so. Peoples’ hormones are disordered because of unprecedented levels of environmental pollutants.

Absolutely nothing. It’s nice that he broke the record of some asshole racist but functionally nothing has changed.

Democrats are just as impotent today as they were yesterday and throughout the Biden administration.

But then we get into questions of intent and deaths/time. British definitely had more time and I’m pretty sure they had more deaths, though I don’t know the exact numbers. It seems British intent fluctuated based on timeframe and region

I’m conflicted about this response because my understanding is that in Germany anything to do with Nazis is highly taboo (understandably), but I wonder if that results in an immediate bias. Not complaining, Nazism is evil, but in your shoes I think I’d be inclined to weight nazis inherently worse as well.

Wearable > implantation

Just a security concern. Augmenting is great but we don’t want the augmentations to become a liability. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, if we invent a robotic arm replacement for someone who’s lost one, the security concerns are generally lower than the quality of life improvement of having a functioning arm 99% of the time, and there’s an argument for the potential ability for rapid detachment in case of emergency, but once we get into subdermal and brain implants, we’re in a territory where these things can’t be easily removed in case of emergency, and the risks get immense.

I think the analogy would be more accurate if he was whipping his dong out and throwing shit within his own home. And he can do what he wants there, because it’s not affecting anyone else. Sure, the people in his house can have whatever opinions they want of him, but if he’s cleaned up and dressed before he leaves his house, who cares?

.world domination

😏

It won’t be a problem until .world starts demanding mutual defederation

To invoke the fallacy that isn’t always fallacious (slippery slope) that seems like the logical next step. If they amass too much power and are already abusing it this way, what’s to prevent them doing this next?

That’s what’s worrying to me. If they federated and started brigading communities, that’s one thing, but I don’t think they even have the numbers to meaningfully do that to start with. It feels like ideological censorship.

I mean, if I wanted a walled garden I’d just go back to Reddit. Federation is part of lemmy’s beauty, but if the imposition of a particular mindset through defederation becomes the norm, why would anyone respond with anything but defederation?

In short: why tolerate intolerance?

That seems like an argument from tradition though. Just because something has default become some way doesn’t mean it has to remain so. I think there’s bigger principles at play, censorship of minority opinions for starters.

I mean, they’re opinionated but we’ve nothing concrete to suggest they’ll be invasive or detrimental to other instances. Even lemmygrad generally keeps their stuff to their instance.

I think the concept of a mascot or poster child for Lemmy is somewhat antithetical to the concept of federated social media. Kind of a no gods no masters situation.

This is great! Thanks! I was literally reading Wikipedia and didn’t even think to check Wikipedia itself for the answer to my question XD

Does any music genre have a disproportionally high number of highly educated artists?
Was reading about The Offspring due to this post here: https://lemmy.ml/post/2628198 As I read their Wikipedia page I noticed that Dexter Holland (lead singer) has a PhD in Molecular Biology. Then I remembered that Greg Gaffin (lead singer) of Bad Religion has a PhD in Zoology. Is this a trend in Punk Rock or am I noticing a freak coincidence? If not punk rock, is there any genre that stands out in its number of highly educated artists?

I feel like /c/memes has taught us a valuable lesson today: Would it make sense to develop a feature to block a comm from our feed for a selectable unit of time (1 hour, 1 day, etc.)?
Even if we're subscribed to them? Could a temp block exist in conjunction with a subscription? I love c/memes but holy shit no matter which sort I select by they've managed to overwhelm my feed.

Hey Lemmy, what are your favorite ear worms?

Hey Lemmy, what are some good public domain books?
I tend to like the volunteer-read audiobooks on librivox and recently was curious about their Sherlock Holmes books (never read or listened to before), but I'm wondering what else is out there and popular in the community.
