I trained a serial killer. Hang on, I’ll link to another comment I made regarding that…

EDIT, found it: https://lemmy.ml/comment/3725228

Another edit, just to clarify: I trained him at the job, not the killing part

I have to admit that I’m curious about something similar; the death camps and ots mechanism seemed highly inefficient, but the fact that I have to preface any questions on the topic with how much i detest the actual concept made me conclude that it’s probably best not to ask. That’s the annoying fact about being interested in finding efficient technical solutions while also hating nazis and everything they stood for.

I am an “expert” in my field. But it’s not because I’m the best in the world at networking and servers. It’s because I am one of the few in the world who knows this highly specialized system setwork, how it integrates across VPN, and a bunch of other niche stuff. Sure, any donky with basic linux and TCP/IP skills could do my job, but it’d take years to train them on this particular setup. And that’s because experts are mostly this: highly specialized in what they do well.

We have multiple experts at my job, and we frequently have to call each other due to ineptitude in what is outside of what we normally do. Ask me how to right click on a mac and I’ll come up short. Ask me how to fix some broken O365 setup and I’ll have to guess based on 20 years outdated IMAP setups that I haven’t touched in one and a half decade.

It’s easy to find experts. But experts in the exact thing you need are rare.

I wish I could forget all about Day of the Tentacle, so I could play it all over again and rediscover everything.

That whole ordeal with Red Dead Uncle Fred is hilarious, especially after IRS arrests him and restrains him with literal red tape.

Braathens, out of Fornebu. Neither the airline nor the airport exists anymore.

If it’s too hard to list them, it must be even harder to charge and bill them.

I just realized two things:

  • This implies the existence of respectful trolls
  • I will strive to become one

I rent a car very often through work, and I always get those extra insurances, because:

  1. My company pays for it

  2. More than once the car rental companies have found some nano-scale damage to the car that I couldn’t have caused (must’ve been there when I picked it up), and they try to pin it on me, something my job wouldn’t cover. And unsurprisingly, those claims only happen when I don’t have that extra insurances.

I knew a DJ 20 years ago. He got most of his stuff by visiting thrift stores and markets where he would buy anything and everything on vinyl for a cheap price.

If it’s OK for the gay best friend to be misogynistic, it’s OK for the woman to be homophobic. Makes just as much sense.

What of I’m of the unpopular but firm belief that 3.5 was the pinnacle of D&D and therefore am heavily boased against 5e?

I don’t eat as much dirt and worms as I did when I was a kid, I think that might be part of the reason.

I sometimes have to. Not because someone tells me to, but because my physical presence is actually needed.

Sometimes I have to fly in from my middle-of-nowhere home office because whatever system I was troubleshooting wasn’t fixable via VPN. And said system can be anywhere in the world, so it doesn’t really matter where I live.

So returning to an office based work location? Yeah, that ain’t happening…

Cool. I used to live in Brno (although I am Norwegian). I had a coworker from Praha who used to curse commies on a daily basis when we worked offshore together. “What kind of asshole party man designed this commie piece of shit??!”. He grew up in the 80’s.

Jesus, just for the bragging rights.

(Many scholars believe him to be a real person, but with a bit overstating and inaccurate literature associated with him)
