No, it makes very very little difference, I graduated late by about two years and took a gap year after that, too (most people getting PhDs take a gap). People getting into the workforce immediately usually don’t have a huge advantage, either, although they go get a little more pay since they work slightly longer in their lifetime.

What’s generally more important is how you position yourself after graduation. Internships if business, lab if grad school, etc. It’s very easy to shoot ahead or fall very behind, though, as life after graduation is pretty much a matter of luck.

Sounds like my sister and a good friend of mine, the latter who prefers playing games as a male character to avoid the attention. I totally get where you’re coming from on that.

I’ve heard that use case before, and it’s fairly reasonable in a faceless contract. Funny enough, my father is a perfect case study, his name is rather unique and one letter off from a common feminine name so he gets misgendered quite frequently as a cis man (plus, to make matters worse, hes very insecure about his masculinity and is sensitive about being called a sissy because his father abused him).

Thinking on his use case, it might help him to have pronouns at work, but according to him people pick up on his pronouns almost immediately because they hear it from a co-worker in reference to him, there is almost never a completely blind email despite it being a rather large city hall. In other words, only people who misgender him are spam. While pronouns wouldn’t have stopped the abuse and bullying growing up, the culture of acceptance behind the trend probably would have.

Ironically, he won’t do the pronouns because he’s a bit conservative leaning. And his alcoholic, homophobic ass certainly didn’t do me any favors when I dated a transgender person.

That, too. Things have regressed, it is definitely a target now.

As someone who was in a supportive relationship with a transgender person for 3 years and who personally struggles associating with my own gender (masculinity was never my thing lol), I never really got into the stating my gender pronouns.

I get why it’s done for the times it matters and can do so in a sensitive space, but I get the sense it’s usually done as public compliance (like a cis neolib as an email sig), which can lead to shallow support or worse, resentment. What we ultimately need is more genuine contact with people different from ourselves because that helps reduce “othering” a group.

Oh, but I do tend to default to “they” out of old internet habits. Always disliked the assumption all gamers are men.

My daughter cheers Go Go Go! When they do that action song during an episode, and part of me wants a parody that just continues that repetition without ever ending until the credits fade to black.

I’m also not too worried about my daughter becoming right wing. She can already tell how uncomfortable I am around cops, lol (but she mostly just loves firefighters and construction workers).

Like every other episode involves some train crash or other perfectly avoidable catastrophe. Granted, that’s maybe their nepo mayors fault (her grandpa was mayor back in the day) but they’re still very complicit.

(My daughter is 2, these thoughts are all I have to get me through watching it with her)

I know a guy who does, and while it doesn’t really matter I’m my opinion, he’s kind of a weirdo sleezebag already so it’s kind of expected. I suspect there’s a correlation that makes it a little hard to separate the service from the kind of guy who would seek out the service.

I wonder the same thing, especially since we managed to buy a house close enough to the shore for a breeze. Not too close, but while everyone complains about 100 degree temps, we’ve capped at 82. People are friendly, I can eat just about any type of food in the world, and the government keeps giving us tax breaks and helps with utility costs since there was a price hike this year (which supposedly the state is investigating), especially since we make below average wage. We literally paid no taxes last year!

That said, this is considered a ghetto neighborhood. Years of poor urban planning (and honestly, white flight, racist redlining, and manufacturing leaving in the 60s/70s) have made our neighborhood pretty neglected over the last half decade. And yet, our schools in the area, despite being 90% free lunch status (i.e. poverty) they are rated 8 and 9 out of 10 by most reviewers; the violent crime rate about the same as most parts of LA, and businesses are coming back— albeit hopefully not replacing locals with gentrification. If all you see is Compton at it’s worst, I understand the concerns, but they’re unfounded.

I guess there’s still homelessness to figure out… And I suppose property value, although again, kind of a boon for us. So yeah, tl;dr, I’m with you on this confusion!

Wow, you’re being bombarded with good suggestions. Although I’d like to add an ingredient that helped me with my constant boredom; if you are going to go exploring or hiking, I found going outside to be incredibly dull personally unless I kept my mind occupied.

For me, that was creative writing brainstorming (plot, character development, etc) almost like organized daydreaming. I’d write it all down when I got home. Although I never did make the game given time constants, I had fun thinking of worlds of my own design.

Yeah, briefly, but the quality has dropped and I usually just switch back to Lemmy since it feels different. Also, only until Infinity for Reddit stops working; no idea why it still works but it’s a matter of time.
