I agree, and their reasoning to do it was insulting. The crypto bullshit and the stories bullshit along with the SMS decision was enough for me. I’ve uninstalled it, and haven’t missed it. It’s not a good app if you care about privacy anyway, there are better apps that don’t require a phone number to use them.

Yeah, although, specifically I use ReVanced Manager to take care of patching.

None. You don’t want to be roasting a marshmallow or hot dog next to the open flame, but cook with pots and pans over it.

Also, you don’t have to use methanol, here is a good article that I found that compares some of the fuels you can use in it.

How come most people try to solve the no heat problem instead of the food that does not need heating problem?

Because a Trangia alcohol stove solves the no heat problem and opens up more options.

When I go camping, I do almost all my cooking on a little alcohol stove, they don’t take special fuel, any gas station will have the yellow Heet that you can use for fuel in it.

But what I usually eat:

  • Canned soups, can be made hot right in the can, but heavy if you are backpacking.
  • Oatmeal and instant noodles like ramen just need to heat some water.
  • Those microwavable rice pouches, just need to heat them up, I also like to add some tinned mackerel and some hot sauce with it.
  • Bagels, eggs, spam, and cheese makes bomb breakfast bagels. Cheese and eggs will last a couple days. Eggs that are not washed do not require refrigeration.
  • You can also bring some cured meats if you want to make sandwiches on your first day. Some meats like summer sausage don’t require any refrigeration so will last until you cut into the casing before you need to worry about it. I also will stop at a gas station and grab a few of the single use packets of condiments: mayo, mustard, bbq, relish, etc.
  • And MREs or freeze dried meals are easy.

I felt like there were a lot of blowhards on reddit and many highly voted comments would get it wrong. It happened enough times in areas I’m knowledgeable in so I almost never trusted a comment without others validating it. Maybe without the numbers lemmy doesn’t have as vast or varied of a knowledge across its users but I’m actually more trustworthy of it so far.

You don’t understand what he is saying.

When I speak in front of an audience, I’m speaking publicly. When I take someone into a private room, I’m speaking privately. Whether or not that room is wiretapped doesn’t change the verbiage.

I figured that out too, I usually start off with my subscribed feed for interesting discussion and news articles (but you have to sub to the right sublems), then I might hop over to the all feed for memes and random pr0n and anything that maybe I missed or new popular communities. Then I jump over to another account on a smaller regional instance and hit the local feed there. I get plenty of interesting discussion and articles… and I think it is way better than reddit has been in the last 10 years. It reminds me of reddit when I joined 15+ years ago. So I’ve had the direct opposite experience as @Pmmeyourtoaster@lemmy.world , the discussions here have been exponentially better than reddit has been for a long, long time now.

I will say that for like the first day or two I spent a good amount of time searching out and subbing to different sublems. I also used multiple different tools to find them. Two of the main ones being the built in Reddit Migration tool in Voyager, another being https://sub.rehab

I would tape a small printout of trollface over it.

Saw someone else post it in similar thread so not taking credit but I liked sublem.

Navigating comments with volume, yeah baby!

I dropped it when they decided to get rid of SMS. I don’t want to be treated like I can’t be trusted to be responsible for my own privacy and security. I understand the difference between an SMS and an encrypted Signal message and was fully aware of which contacts had Signal and which did not have it.

In my opinion they should have disabled SMS by default and made it an option with warnings to enable in the settings. They had already been doing borderline questionable things with crypto and the stories that I did not want in a messenger app… this was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me.

I’m patiently waiting for a decent fork of Signal with SMS enabled, or a decent open source RCS client… unfortunately I landed on Google Messages for now.
