I’m placing 0 blame on developers here but it’s just a fact that Intel can’t reasonably optimize the drivers for all games past and present in such a short time. And developers haven’t had access to the card for even remotely long enough for it to be part of the testing for any game (outside small titles maybe but they generally don’t need special treatment driver wise) releasing this year or next. AMD and Nvidia have literal decades of head start. So while I would’ve wanted Intel to do a better job I’m not trivializing the monstrous task either, and all things considered they’ve done OK. Not great, not horrible.
If it wasn’t clear in the articles you read then those places wanted the clicks and engagement that comes from vaguely implying that Intel is killing their GPU division.

That’s a bit disingenuous. It’s Intels own Limited Edition A770 SKU that is discontinued not the A770 as a model. They still ship the chip to AIB makers like ASRock etc. Their second generation, BattleMage, is still on track as well so on the contrary I believe we’ll see much better support for Intel GPUs in the coming years since more game developers will have had adequate time with the hardware. Intels cards are also priced competitively if we’re looking at the entry level cards which is bound to make them end up in many cheaper pre-builts that parents buy for their younger kids. So I expect to be quite commonly used for certain games in the coming years.

Ultimately if the goal is for it to survive societal collapse to the point where knowledge gets lost then books are a better bet than any digital storage. As such most large libraries hold the knowledge needed to take us up to the industrial revolution at least. Semiconductors is hard to teach in only text, by that point you really need the ability to produce the machines needed etc. But the underlying theory will be in a library. Also a lot gets proprietary and trade secrets when we get within the last 30 years and that knowledge won’t ever get written down in a central repository until it’s aged out of being protected.
Yeah, and the absolute worst thing is they’ll be swarmed with applicants. A job and guaranteed housing I can afford? Guaranteed to be able to afford food and lunch etc? Deals on partnered electronics? I’m even willing to bet they’ll allow remote work when you live there. To the average person it looks like a great deal. It makes life simple.
But when you want to switch jobs to boost your salary you’re faced with having to move and finding a new place to live in the bay area isn’t easy. Then the issue of leaving the town meaning leaving friends, changing schools if you have kids and everything that entails. Not to mention if your partner also works there. There will be a lot of people effectively stuck. That feeling of not having a choice, of being stuck is really insidious.
And with depressed wages, which won’t impact them much while they work since they get housing and stuff cheaper. But come retirement the life time of lower earnings will rear its ugly head.
Visceral didn’t have even 10% of the name recognition BioWare has. As for the substudios that happens all the time when expansion plans fail due to poor releases, it’s extreme to think that spells the imminent death of BioWare. But sure, EA has that kind of track record. Westwood was a huge name way back when and they got killed. Though they didn’t manage like BioWare to get known for multiple things. They really only had Command & Conquer which still “lives on” in a Frankenstein’s Monster kind of sense.
If you argue BioWare is already dead after some big names leaving and thus doesn’t really exist anymore then sure. Like a Ship of Theseus line of thinking that too much has changed already. I could accept that.
But if you honestly think EA will kill the brand of in 5 years time I think you’re delusional. Sure they haven’t delivered in some time but their legacy still gets games both hyped and sold. ME Legendary edition sold very well and SWTOR has been very profitable as well.

Steam Deck punches way above its weight. But it does so much thanks to its lower resolution. Though in the format 720p isn’t bad at all. It’s what the switch uses as well.
Skip all the Chinese alternatives, they require far more tweaking / researching than you’re fit for (judged solely by this post).
Really I’d break it down to games and game types you want to play. If you want say Genshin Impact then it’s a lot easier to go with the ROG Ally. There are other Asian games that also don’t play nice with Linux. Multiplayer titles also tend to be finicky with Linux. The ROG Ally is also strong enough to dock to a 1080p screen for titles like Valorant or CSGO. If that is appealing.
If you’re playing mainly older games then the deck is the obvious choice, it’s a beast when it comes to emulation and has much better battery life in that setting than the ROG Ally. It’s also arguably more plug-and-play especially if you play mostly steam games.
Running Windows on the Deck isn’t very good, it kills the decks battery advantage and the lower performance becomes more obvious. Same running Linux on the ROG is also missing out on what it’s actually good at and Linux won’t improve the battery life much.
Mine beeps when the door unlocks, but I’ve seen many that beep before the final check. Either to satisfy some “1 hour wash cycle” target or perhaps they expect people to walk to the machine when it beeps and the check isn’t that long so it’s probably going to be unlocked when you get there?

At the same time, people need to sort people. So I foresee a rise in racism, ageism and other discrimination to maintain largely the same in and out groups. But those first weeks of absolute mayhem that noone understands why it’s suddenly mayhem would be beautiful.
I was still under the premise from the OP, if we’re just talking defrauding banks then yeah there are ways to make it work sure. It has been done before almost guaranteed. Most push for a hefty life insurance as well before they cause their own death in a way that can’t be conclusively ruled as a suicide.
The problem with the concept is that you kinda do need to die. Else you’ve just amassed a shit ton of debt. And most don’t want to die. And those that do generally aren’t in a state of mind to plan it out well enough to work. Not to mention that you still need to have a credit rating good enough that you can get a decent amount of loans / credit card limit to make it worth the effort.

Yeah, but I feel that is the smallest problem if you suddenly start the morning by mass applying to credit cards, spend like a mad man and then drop dead the next day. Remember it’s beyond reasonable doubt, else you couldn’t ever convict say 1st degree murder because a key difference between that and say manslaughter is that you planned to kill the person. Now if you don’t write that down (who would?) it’s proven by your actions. Like say buying the murder weapon the day before. Or going out of your way to meet the person, i.e. not somewhere you’re normally at. And the crime would be to not plan to repay, not necessarily that you drop dead. Dying could be unintended, say an overdose from partying too hard.

I’d like to add that even scrolling social media like Reddit, Facebook, Lemmy etc can be meaningful. I find it’s like walking around town looking at what other people are doing. Listening in on someone ranting from their soap box, participating in some open air discussion, looking at cute cats in the park and learning something from a mechanic talking through a problem with someone standing beside a broken down car. It’s also a social experience even though it can’t be your only social exposure it still provides something.
It really is about variation and moderation. It wouldn’t be meaningful, in my opinion, to spend your life on a rotation of the gym, cooking healthy, reading about those topics, working hard at some nameless corp and sleeping properly. But if you don’t normally go to the gym it’s suddenly meaningful to go. Life is about experiences and about challenging ourselves to find out who to be and how to be the subjective “best” version of ourselves, and that quest has no truly meaningless activities, all roads lead to the end of life and while we might regret some activities that regret in and off itself is a lesson that we took with us.
A million times this. Mag-lev only works for either super dense routes where the added cost as you describe can be displaced by the immense value add of shorter and generally more comfortable travel. Or in nations that can force through decisions from the top down, such that cost becomes almost a non-factor like China. Rail in general across the western world is a weird mix of nationalized and privately owned companies and operators, such that introducing mag-lev with the intent to replace conventional rail would require compensation to the private companies who have invested billions in the current infrastructure else they simply won’t be part of the new one, with all the issues that entail.
From an environmental standpoint it’s also really hard to see an ROI in scrapping something that works in favor of mining, constructing and spending intense amounts of energy in all forms to build something better but only moderately so. The biggest improvement is moving from trucks to (electric) train for freight, going from electric train to mag-lev is only slightly better so the ROI just won’t be there.
