Both mods have been MIA for 2 months from the looks of their profile activity so I’d assume the sub is basically abandoned from a moderation standpoint

Equal parts hilarious and depressing to read.

Real shame what’s become of reddit and where it’ll probably go from here.

Ironically Aaron Swartz helped develop RSS. Feels symbolic.

This. The internet is just fucking toxic now. And wherever you go, we’ll… there you are.

This. Reddit is a sea of whoever and that’s why I liked it. This is a major misunderstanding of the community on their part.

I really don’t understand how anyone expected differently. You thought they were just gonna let people trash them on something so front facing.

Stop giving them engagement.

Yeah I think this is the Occam’s razor explanation that makes more sense. And why might Reddit be doing such a similar thing so soon after twitter? Spez has said he’s in touch with Elon and admires his business decisions. Simple as that.

Teah but it’s not like the predominant mode of the website and it’s not the same kind of like cult of personality you get with youtube creators. Poem for your sprog is like a novel little thing you randomly run into on the site and are like, ah cute. But if that kinda gimmicky shit was all the site revolved around it would for sure not be the same place anymore and I think it would lose a lot of people.

If you look at the distribution of earnings for other platforms like Twitch or YouTube, there’ll be a top 1% of people making decent money and everyone else will make jack shit.

Yeah but this comes right at the same time that they’re killing coins and claiming vaguely that something new is in the works to replace it.

I feel like a big part of the appeal of reddit was that it was kind of a sea of anonymous people and mostly sidestepped the cult of personality that thrives on other forms of social media.

This is a big fucking gamble on their part I think.

Yeah I’m already donating via “buy me a coffee” might as well make it fun to do.

Sounds like they’re desperate to keep power users on board

Honestly it’d be kinda nice for Lenny/Kbin instances to help keep the servers running without having to do something like ads.

It wasn’t really worth it to pay a subscription for the pixel pal unfortunately and the free version isn’t as full featured as it was on Apollo so no dice for me.

I will say that at least I’m wasting a lot less time on my phone now. RIP to my pixel pal tho.

That’s actually how the Digg migration really got off the ground. People started bombarding it with Reddit links after they pushed a huge update to the site that everyone hated.

Would it be the wort idea to create bots to steal top ranked content on reddit and then cross post it to relevant areas of the threadiverse?

Would at least help people stay over here more while the community catches up.
