I’m pretty left/lean socialist. The tankies that annoy me from those instances are pro authoritarian communists who say shit like “Stalin did nothing wrong” with no irony whatsoever. It’s not really about bickering over ideological purity past a certain point, some of that shit makes a good case for the horseshoe theory

I haven’t read the wheel of time. The Amazon series is certainly uneven but I’ve enjoyed it so far

None of my hobbies are inexpensive (bikes, guitars and parenting)

Every time a friend tries to get me to take up snowboarding or some other gear based hobby I’m like, “are you fucking insane?”

I spent a decade as a touring musician. My guitarist is still a tonechaser and has new shit every practice. New amps, New pedals, etc. He’s constantly trading and saving for new crap

I’m so happy I run my PBass into an OCD clone voiced for bass into a Mesa 400 with 2x15 and I’ve never wanted more.

I have 1500 LPs from my collecting days but have bought only a handful of records in the last few years for this reason. Last time I mail ordered 2 LPs it came to $75.

LPs were $8 when I first started collecting

Who cares?

If God exists in the Judeo Christian sense, they seemingly fucked off and stopped caring a while back and creation hit perpetual motion status a while back for better or worse

If I was created in their image they totally get why I’m skeptical given the rest of their fan club and also gestures around

If you want to believe in that stuff: do you. I legit hope you get something positive or if it, BUT… Just like crossfit, veganism or astrology; I can hang in a casual conversation, but don’t recruit me. I did my research. Not for me, thank you.

It’s worth mentioning that XPO was formerly run by Louis DeJoy: current USPS head. He’s the guy who says the post office needs to be “profitable” (as if it isn’t a service) and purposely slowed things down partially to fuck up mail in votes since he’s a staunch republican.

You know when you nod off/nap jerk? Imagine that except you’re groggier. You’ve probably also said some silly shit while you were under. My wife was a short stay nurse and people are essentially sloppy drunk before regaining consciousness

Worst case scenario story: my dad was put under for a detached retina. He “woke” up halfway through the procedure but couldn’t move or speak. The anesthesiologist realized something was up when his heart rate spiked. Needless to say my dad was pretty shook because they literally had needles in his eye at that moment

I think the dude could actually cook. He’d been a chef at a resort in the Caribbean previous to that… makes sense: he cooked somewhere out of the country and I’m not sure if the owners reached out to that place.

He was a pushy prima Donna chef with ego and swagger. Dude was a skilled bullshitter who talked over people and I immediately didn’t like him but I’m sure he knew how to sell himself when he was interviewed.

The guy who replaced him was also a total dick (what is it with chefs?) But at least he could hold it together. Amusingly you could tell he didn’t want to be there: it was a Mexican place and he put meatloaf and a seared ahi tuna sandwich on the menu. His concession was adding cilantro, chilies or something to them. I left that place a few months later and he didn’t last much longer

An old restaurant I worked at hired a new chef. He came in, completely rearranged the kitchen, changed the menu top to bottom ON HIS FIRST DAY, and introduced a bunch of complicated specials. Dinner service hits, chaos ensues and dude disappears.

I was on expo watching everything fall apart when one of the line cooks is like, “get chef,I don’t know how to make this special because there’s no recipe or notes”

I go into the walk in and he’s haunched over in there and violently turns, around inhaling, all bug eyed. I told him we needed help. He doesn’t hide his annoyance goes on the line, makes the one dish in question and is like, “see, that wasn’t difficult” and disappeared again.

The line cook asked why I had the look on my face that I did and I said it was because chef was doing rails in the walk in. We both laughed, shook our heads and got through service eventually. Drugs are pretty common in the service industry but even that seemed extreme.

Anyhow we didn’t see him for the rest of the night. Next day, I get to work and the owner is there and he pulls me aside and told me what happened after. Owner didn’t even know he’d been snorting shit during the dinner rush

Chef continued his one man party and went into the booze closet and proceeded to help himself. When the prep cook showed up the next morning the kitchen door was wide open so she called the police thinking the place had been robbed. The police went in and found Chef semi conscious and incoherent, giggling in the office. He was fired and since he was a keyholder all the locks and alarm codes had to be changed

I’ve never seen someone self destruct that spectacularly.

To have been a fly on the wall when they called the other guy chef beat out for the gig and told him he could start immediately…

I’ll go one further: I get (and respect) the utility of they/them pronouns for a singular entity, but it IS clunky and confusing. English is ever evolving but when I hear a “they” it is still very much more abstract and plural than a more specific he or she.

Whatever: it’s my shit and I’ll gladly deal with a nanosecond of confusion and adjust if it allows people to maintain their dignity. Point is, by insisting that there’s nothing confusing about they/them in reference to a single entity feels disingenuous. I know moderate people who are otherwise live and let live as well as receptive to basic human dignity who are turned off by the confusing abstraction, switching tenses, etc.

They/them isn’t the elegant, seamless drop in that people say it is and it hurts the messaging. I get that being rigid and forceful is necessary with the rampant transphobia and “i’m just asking (bad faith) questions” going on, but I still fuck up semantics and tenses like whoa

Love mine.

When I make chicken or beef stock I put it in I’ve cube trays. On some mornings I add the rice, a stock ice cube, and maybe some miso. I let it ride while I get ready and then crack an egg on the cooked rice and add some avocado, tamari and rice seasoning (nori and sesame)

Best breakfast and super easy

Lions Led By Donkeys - fun, irreverent military history podcast that is still quite informative

Hardcore History - more like an audio book that comes out once or twice a year. The WWI series is like 20- something hours BY ITSELF

Skeets

(Serious answer, I think it’s Xeets)

I have horrible tinnitus after years of searing guitars. I have to sleep with a white noise machine or I am completely tweaked
