A full, refreshing night of sleep every night.

The folks that host the toast.ooo instance have run an event like that for us the past two summers. Check out !canvas@toast.ooo to see last year’s result, and watch for news about the next one.

This reminds me that I need to plan some art for the next event!

At work I usually need to have multiple windows up, so no one window spans the width of the display. It’s often nice to have two documents side-by-side instead.

Tbh, I copy-pasted this from a health website. As far as I know, dried and canned beans are comparable. The biggest difference is that canned beans usually have added salt, which a lot of us could probably do without.

I would rather find ways to encourage people to eat foods that are natural sources of magnesium. They provide lots of other dietary benefits beyond just magnesium.

  • Soy products (milk, flour, tofu)

  • Legumes and seeds

  • Nuts (almonds, cashews, Brazil nuts)

  • Peanuts and peanut butter

  • Whole grain breads and cereals (brown rice, millet)

  • Fruit (bananas, dried apricots, etc.)

  • Vegetables, particularly dark green, leafy vegetables (artichokes, chard, beet greens, avocados, etc.)

  • Dried beans (lima, black-eyed peas, navy)

For an OpenChristian community, you are welcome to take over !progressivechristian@sh.itjust.works. The existing mod is long gone. Let me know if you want it.

I do not know of any instances focusing on religious communities, but I assume most general-purpose instances would be fine with you opening a religious community. If you search communities you will find lots of existing religious ones across several of the large instances, though they are generally not very active. If you find that the community you want already exists, but is dead, consider taking it over and bringing it back to life.

That’s really interesting. I saw the term “international dollar” but glossed right over it.

I have seen 100g gold bars available for US$10k, so you would have US$100k worth of gold.

In the wealthiest countries that’s about 4x the median annual income, so 4 years worth of wages. In the poorest countries it’s about 250 years worth of wages. This is simplistic math that does not account for purchasing power parity or other variables. But it’s safe to say this would be a massive amount of money for most of the people on earth. It would not only change the individual’s life, but would give them the ability to alter the trajectory of their children’s and grandchildren’s lives for the better.

While W. sucked in many ways, there is no way he is the worst. Off the top of my head I can easily think of four better contenders: Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan (both guilty of pro-slavery fuckery before the Civil War), Andrew Johnson (fought to let the Confederates off the hook after the war and opposed the 14th amendment), and Donald Trump (first president to be impeached twice, first to be convicted of a felony, and may be remembered by future historians as the spark that ignites the next Civil War).

Making quiche for brunch. Apparently an omelet is fine, but a scrambled omelette is gay.

There are communities specifically for testing. Maybe one of them would be willing to have you? Or make your own testing community?

US, yes but haven’t owned a manual for years. If Honda sold an Odyssey Si with a 6-speed and a turbo I would drive the hell out of it.

Regarding your brake: You need a fork with disc brake mounts. You also need a front wheel with a hub that can accept a disc rotor. And, assuming you want to keep your existing brake lever, you need to choose the correct type of disc brake. Cable-actuated disc brakes come in “standard” and “road” versions for use with mountain or road brake levers, respectively. The big question is, why is a rim brake not adequate? A well-adjusted rim brake should be perfectly fine for most uses.

Regarding your gears, I assume you mean replacing the cassette on the rear wheel. Park Tool has a good tutorial. Make sure the new cassette has the same number of gears as the old one. Replace your chain at the same time.

In the future, this would be a great question for !bikewrench@lemmy.world.

We’re trying to create something new here, not be a mirror or an archive of Reddit.

I have to mention Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, though it was popular when it was published so I bet a number of you Lemmings have read it.

It’s a surgeon’s first-person account of learning how to address and deal with death, both among his very sick patients and his aging family members.

Money: The True Story of a Made-Up Thing. It’s a very easy read all about how weird currency is. My only gripe is that Jacob Goldstein often leaves out too much detail of historical accounts in favor of keeping the book light and accessible.

Please help by contributing content. Lemmy will not grow and thrive if we all lurk.
