I have to re-auth with AWS every goddamn hour and enter a 2fa code for every. single. command. I run from the CLI. It drives me up a fucking wall even though I have it entirely scripted now. Another great example of how overly tight security leads to worse security as people try to bypass it.

Toyota and Honda have the reputation for being the most reliable. I would add Subaru to the list as well out of my personal experience.

Although, I think the best investment a car owner can make is a basic set of tools and the time to learn to do repairs/maintenance yourself. I started by doing my own oil changes and, at first, it wasn’t cheaper at all with needing to buy the tools, but in the years since I think I’ve become quite a handy mechanic and have saved tens of thousands by doing everything myself. There are repair videos online for virtually everything so it’s pretty easy to get started with basic stuff and work your way up from there as needed for your car.

Does writing music about alcohol necessarily mean an artist has alcohol problems? Buffett died from skin cancer.

Because it’s easier to compare yearly salaries. If you say “I’m making 50k” then I can assume it’s yearly (if it’s monthly then good for you, but that’s overwhelmingly not the case). Otherwise you need to specify the pay frequency and do math.

Same with net/gross. I can assume your yearly salary is given in gross because net introduces a bunch of variables with tax rates based on location/deductions that makes it a fairly meaningless value to compare against. Not to mention your net monthly income may change in a year as you hit certain tax limits like the max social security tax limit.

Some people may also not have consistent monthly earnings so averaging income over a year gives a more accurate picture of average income.

US Airways or United I believe. I don’t remember my first flight but those were the airlines my family always flew growing up.

Yes. I bought a manual car a few years ago having never driven one before. I taught myself how to drive it in my driveway and with the help of YouTube videos. I really enjoy it and hope that even in the future when EVs are the final nail in the coffin for manuals that I still have at least a “fun” car with a manual. I’m in the US and a millennial.

To add one more option as well: In even more limited cases, a fanbase is dedicated enough to rewrite the entire game into free software like with OpenRCT2. I don’t know if I’d really call this a “mod” per se since it’s an entirely new implementation, but the end goal of changing/customizing the gameplay remains the same.

Is there any reason to be concerned?

No.

Or should I be excited for faster 5G speeds?

Yes.

That’s pretty much every social platform now. I got first suspended from reddit for “harassment” for telling someone trying to scam me out of money to “fuck off” and then permanently banned when I appealed the suspension. 13 year old reddit account, gone. Meanwhile, the scammer’s account is still active and scamming people.

I now run my own personal Lemmy instance.

I have, I thought it was decent, definitely better than most of the Star Wars stuff Disney has put out for a while. Problem is I’m just over that whole universe I think. Sort of how I’ve been over the Marvel universe for the better part of a decade now. Nothing against people that like either of those franchises, it just all feels like slight variants on the same stories with the same characters or character archetypes to me. I’m not finding anything interesting they can offer anymore.

What would you propose then? That if I built a house somewhere someone else could come along and build a house right next to mine? If so, wouldn’t that simply create the incentive to build structures that used as much land as possible to keep others away?

Or are you saying that plots of land should be rented instead? If so, that’s basically already the case. Stop paying property taxes and see how long that plot of land you “own” remains yours.

Among others that nuclear fission is not the way to stop climate change

I keep telling myself to stop getting into pointless internet nuclear debates so I know I’ll regret this… but why? I’m ridiculously pro-nuclear and think it’s a goddamn embarrassment that we have the power to dramatically reduce carbon emissions in ~10-15 years time* with proven technologies but we won’t do it out of, frankly, overblown fears of nuclear accidents when the statistics clearly show that orders of magnitude more people die from pollution related to coal than nuclear has or ever could kill.

*10-15 years being if we really put our minds to it and broke through the red tape. Nuclear projects continually go over budget and over time due to lack of economies of scale, a hollowing out of the nuclear industry in the US, and continually changing regulations requiring extensive redesigns.

I’m on the same train. The original trilogy never did much for me (maybe if I was around in the 70s/80s when it was groundbreaking VFX), the prequels obviously suck, and the sequels are a hot mess too. Now you have Disney milking the hell out of it with all the TV shows and spinoffs. The only Star Wars thing I ever enjoyed was Rogue One.

…then I discovered Dune. And Dune is exactly what I wished Star Wars had always been.

If closing your laptop puts it in standby mode then yes, it won’t be running programs anymore. If it just turns off the screen but keeps running (which is not typically the default setting for most laptops) then programs would continue to run.

I get that there are extremely rare side effects for certain individuals, there’s no such thing as a perfect medication afterall. But OP here is clearly either trying to be a troll or peddling conspiracy bs and it’s not worth anyone’s time to engage with them beyond telling them that they’re full of shit.

I’ve tried posting about the side effects a few times but it always gets downvoted to oblivion, so I guess most people don’t want anyone to know about the side effects and want the government to censor that information, but I don’t understand why.

Because everything you’ve posted here is bullshit. The mRNA COVID vaccines have been widely available for 2+ years now and it’s definitively shown to have saved many lives without serious side effects.
