I’ll have to give that a go thought you needed wired to authenticate first

Iirc that requires a usb connection at least in the first instance right? I guess only one way to find out if the usb c charging port on the Chromecast dongle supports any kind of data transfer

Sideload on Chromecast without installing sketchy apps?
Does anyone know a way to sideload apps on the Chromecast without installing some sketchy "file uploader HD" app? All the guides I can find online recommend installing some random file transfer app. Can't get termux or f-droid, nor Firefox, chrome or even apkpure

Is Lemmy getting more radical lately?
Have seen a few posts popping up recently just straight up calling fo violence barely disguised as memes Had thought Lemmy had chilled out a bit on that kinda thing for a while but seems to be coming back now Anyone else noticing the same or just me?

My phone doesn’t have a headphone jack but even before they started disappearing I rarely used them anyway, much prefer wireless

I’m of the probably unpopular opinion around here that the less cables and IO I need the better, will often transfer large files over lan on WiFi rather than plug in because often in the time I’ve found a cable, plugged in, set the right USB mode, found the file on my phone’s filesystem and transferred it the slightly longer wireless transfer would be done

Have a ThinkPad which has a ton of IO, but I think a couple thunderbolt/PD ports, a usb port and maybe an ethernet port if you do lots of fiddling with networking are plenty

Oh micro SD on the inside of phones too someone else made a point about that but that’s more an upgradability/maintainability thing imo

I’ve found de googled chromium kinda sucks though, PWAs seem unstable and Chromecast doesn’t work properly

I think that only works if you already have that in the first place though (and you already have enough mechanical skill to get anywhere in those games fast enough to get hooked)

Have made the mistake of introducing people who don’t really play videogames to games like Celeste before thinking it’ll help them improve but it only ends in frustration

What's going on with hexbears
Seems people frequently talk about negative experiences of them then end up banned shortly after Also seems like people are weirdly quick to jump to their defense for the internet

There’s sometimes desktop functionality like saving music on yt music

Also having them in their own window/their own shortcut is pretty handy and firefox doesn’t support shortcuts either nowqdays

I use firefox as my main but have brave as my chromium/PWA browser because I don’t really fancy using edge or chrome

What other browsers out there support PWAs that are less spyware-ey than the big names

Oh really? Damn that’s crazy never realised

Could’ve sworn I’ve watched stuff at 1080 though I usually hate watching anything lower res than that

I can stream DRM content just fine on my Linux PC though what would be different about a phone?

If you have pretty much any office job you either use teams or slack which is apparently worse somehow

I’m not sure if that’s a pride point or not

I’d quit just as soon whether it be a mountain of 10 year old PHP or code for a quantum computer that my puny mind cannot comprehend

Why would you apply to a job having to manage children without knowing any English? That sounds like a nightmare to me

Damn this is really sad to see for the longest time LMG was one of the few companies I actually liked and trusted

We’ll see I suppose

Also my argument is not that it won’t suck if they find a loophole but it’s still better than what we’ve got right now

Still potentially the difference between being stranded without a phone and managing to trickle charge it over a long period of time while it’s off

Even if they limit the speed of other cables I think for the most part it’s still worked

Looking forward to the day a charger cable is a charger cable and no more of this “could I borrow your charger? Sorry only got an iPhone charger/micro USB” problem

Slow charging is infinitely better than no charging in an emergency

Who else foresees environmental problems with this later down the line?
Microsoft are looking at putting datacenters under the ocean, which sounds like a really good idea to cool them but I can’t help but think a couple decades from now it’s going to start causing us problems

Any good macro/keybind software for linux with wayland?
Used to use reWASD and sometimes AutoHotkey on windows, but neither of these have linux support. Googling returns a couple of solutions but they're for x11. I'm considering just giving up and writing macros in python, but that makes it a great deal more difficult to make quick and dirty scripts

Best version of cod zombies?
Used to love playing cod zombies with my brother when I was younger, thinking of picking it up again What's the best version for the zombies mode and why?

De-googled contactless payment?
I'm trying to move away from Google and other big tech corporations as much as I can without sacrificing practicality but it seems like the only way to make contactless payments is with stock android on a Google approved device. Is there any alternative out there that would allow me to make contactless payments without these conditions met? (For example, if I put grapheneos on my phone)
