I’m an anarchocommunist, all states are evil.

Your local herpetology guy.

Feel free to AMA about picking a pet/reptiles in general, I have a lot of recommendations for that!

These aren’t companies, these are projects, lemmy/mastodon are co-operatively worked on and can be worked on by any number of companies.

I don’t want a corpo internet, that’s kind of the point of federation.

There may be a need for improvement overtime… but that has nothing to do with if competition is helpful.

This is free open source software, it’s better to have many people working together on one project than a bunch of projects being worked on separately, for reasons I think are obvious.

There isn’t a race to be the king of the fediverse, competition does nothing but make people work separately on something that should be worked on cooperatively, it accomplishes nothing but slowing down development. If we used competition, when a new feature was implemented, now instead of it being implemented for everyone, it’ll be implemented in one particular codebase, and if other people want to implement it, there will be a massive duplication of effort.

What does competition in this space actually do for the community? As far as I see it, absolutely nothing at all, except duplicating effort.

No… it can just be better, it doesn’t have to be better than the competition, this is a bizarre assumption you’re making here. We’re talking about a website where you post small snippets of text, there isn’t really much innovation to be done here, and even if there were, open standards that people co-operate on will see faster progress than a bunch of people trying to make the exact same thing separately.

You seem to believe that it’s impossible to just improve and innovate without competition, but that’s simply not the case.

Competition often does not drive innovation in the software world, quite the opposite, free open source software allows collaboration between many people to better innovate than competition ever could, especially in this particular space.

This is not a normal experience. I use 3 monitors and Linux runs better than windows significantly.

come back in a month, there are still major architecture changes in the works.

I’ve been saying forever this system is stupid as hell, you should have either a 100 percent chance to steal something or a 0 percent chance, so that you can’t save scum

I’m usually a snake owner (although not at the moment), the amount of people who have horrible misconceptions about snakes genuinely frighten me

People see snakes and assume they’re bitey monsters that just want to hurt you, this could not be further from the case, snakes have relatively fragile teeth, and their venom is precious, furthermore they cannot tear chunks out of their prey, they must swallow them whole. These few things combined means that biting humans is not really high on their list of things to do. Some snakes can be rather defensive, but there’s no snake that will chase a human, and you can tame almost any snake down from defensiveness relatively easily (much easier than you could if a giant grabbed you)

There’s no such thing as a snake that chases humans, they aren’t slimy, they aren’t all venomous, and the venomous ones know they will still lose a fight with a human, so, they will run away, furthermore it is no consolation prize to the snake that they kill you TOMORROW if you’ve been bit, when their head has been stomped today.

Cinnamon is pretty much the only major desktop environment that isn’t transitioning.

Mate and XFCE are both planning it and it seems relatively close for them, and since they’re going to be using wlroots, once it’s supported it won’t be long for x11 to be gone.

Also, I think gnome/kde make up the VAST majority of linux desktop usage.

They aren’t, wayland is replacing X11 completely.

X11 is legacy and is soon to no longer ship by default anywhere.

Undermined by stuffed pockets?

None of the systems I advocated were undermined by stuffed pockets, they were undermined by a capitalist country militaristically destroying a new nation, a capitalist country that has 50 percent of the ENTIRE WORLDS military spending.

That’s an important detail not to gloss over.

Revolutionary Catalonia had a wonderful system, the zapatistas have a wonderful system, neither were undermined by what you claim. I’m anti-red fascism, the Soviet union was evil. You just boldly assumed anarchists don’t exist, I agree that they were fundamentally doomed, but anarchists have no such fuckups.

Furthermore do you honestly believe capitalism is not susceptible to stuffed pockets??

People have tried alternate systems, some have even gone extremely well until they are destroyed by capitalists

The fact of the matter is, the only reason there isn’t another system is because capitalists have gone out of their way to destroy every other system that has been tried.

You can’t make a fair comparison when you factor in that capitalists already control the world.

Even democratically elected communists were destroyed by the US government.

I don’t know why you’d give reddit the benefit of the doubt, they’ve been caught astroturfing many times.

Buy a house, start my reptile projects, throw extras at the fediverse, the fediverse succeeding is very important long-term.

My next keyboard is going to be the moonlander by ergodox.

Look, I think billionaires existing is ridiculous, look at my username, but that seems like a leap to me.

Fighting against anti-lemmy misinformation on reddit
Please check my post, I think everything I said is very valid, but I want this community to see it too, and help steer the discussion, I think reddit is doing this intentionally.
