I told people I didn’t like music, and pretended not to like, when I was young. My sister was really into music, and my dad always had the radio off in the car (I think so conversation could happen), so I thought it was a girl thing and rejected it.

I have since changed my tune.

Breath of the Wild helped with my willingness to explore and discover in open world games.

It depends on how bad it is. I know people who had really bad arthritis, who didn’t do well with humidity, so they moved to a really dry place as it got worse with age.

I think a general purpose computer can have a longer life than a device like the iPad, as it allow you to more easily run old stuff and find solutions that work. That’s harder to do with locked down hardware, and an App Store that only has current versions of apps, along with internet connectivity where security is a concern.

A computer from the 80s can still write a document. George R R Martin still uses DOS.

The first iPad can still do stuff with apps it has, but if you need a new app, or that app connects to the internet in any way, it’s very possible you’re out of luck.

Not too much. It’s 13 years old now. To put that in perspective, it would be like trying to use something from 1997 when the iPad 1 came out.

This was the tech of 1997 - https://www.cnet.com/pictures/this-was-the-hottest-tech-20-years-ago-in-1997/

Technically speaking you might be able to do something, but it wouldn’t be great and you’d really be forcing the use case. If you haven’t found a use for it after all these years, it’s probably time to part with it. You can see if they are worth anything to sell, if not, Apple has a recycling program.

I’ve been talking with someone to try and figure this out as well. One thing pointed out often is that judgement will happen no matter what, but judgement isn’t always negative, we just tend to frame it that way. It could be that you wear that clothing you like and people make the judgement that you have good style and seem like a cool person.

When I think back and am honest with myself, when I’ve gone out on a limb and did something different, it has almost always been judge positively. And if somebody judged in negatively, fuck em, they’re probably a miserable and projecting.

Of course all of this is easy to say, but hard to integrate (at least for me).

Why exactly? I get it, colonialism = bad, but having a language which is widely spoken by people around the world does a lot to bring people from all different counties and background together. Actively avoiding that seems like it could only serve to separate people and foster hate, when people become scared of what they don’t know or understand. When I travel to various countries, English seems to be the bridge between people who don’t have another common language, because English is so widely spoken as a second language.

You already know the language. Actively choosing not to speak it, or read/watch anything in the language, just seems silly.

On the rare day I have no meetings at all, I can end up spending about 9 hours doing actual productive work. I actually really enjoy these days.

Most day, with meetings and other nonsense, I’ll be lucky if I have 20 minutes.

The self-employed person does have the option to say no or not work for the clients/customers that want them to do stupid things, assuming they have enough other business to still make ends meet. I thinking artists especially.

Seems about the same to me, but maybe having less people, and thus less content and fewer rabbit holes means people get trapped less. On Reddit I could go from having no awareness that a thing existed, to stumbling into a post on /r/all, to checking out the sub, becoming an arm chair expert, and pricing how much this new hobby might cost me and figuring out where it will fit into my life…. Then I remember I didn’t know this thing existed 5 hours ago, don’t really care, and just got caught up in the passion people had for it in the subreddit. At that point I go back to /r/all and the cycle starts once again. That’s harder with a less mature site without all the deep niches, but the framework is there for the same thing to happen.

The 3 envelopes story is all too real, but not just as the CEO level, it filters down into various organizations inside the company as well.

Apple MagSafe. The magnets snap into place with 0 effort. You can do it quiet or make it click. There is no worry about putting stress on the port, as it can just pop off and back on.

The only big downside would be for things that require constant power, there is too big of a chance for it to disconnect. And if you’re talking about data IO, there would need to be a ton of protections in place to avoid corruption if the connection is lost during writes.
