There’s no “solidifying” anything with this guy. His reign is based on his whims and emotions.

They could. Or Trump could fold tomorrow. No one knows. I don’t even think Trump knows.

We are not going by “number of features”, we’re “going by” one specific feature.

You may have glossed over the part where I said this is not premium hardware. Even bargain basement Android phones come with USB3. They’ve gone out of their way to ensure their less expensive (but still very expensive) devices have bad hardware.

Apple wasn’t ever interested in supporting that niche at budget prices because there’s little money to be made there.

Not true. Difference in cost between USB 2&3 is negligible. They’ve just done this to create artificial value for the “Pro” models. Same way they create artificial value with ram and storage.

That’s true, but it’s also worth noting that as the industry as a whole has grown, even physical media only costs a few bucks. And as we’ve moved away from physical media, that number is effectively zero. So there’s no increased costs as they’ve scaled, only increased profits.

Q-OLED and kind of fell in love. Was ready to purchase one until, I was not. I found out it’s not a good match for productivity usage due to burn-in issue

This is an old view carrying over from old monitors. It wasn’t much of an issue before and definitely isn’t now. People have been trying to intentionally burn in OLED monitors to show how difficult it is. Like, leaving it on the same bright image on full brightness 24/7 and it takes months to generate any sort of noticeable burn-in.

This is just the way it works. Things stay the way they are until someone has the balls to make a change. Once one party does, all the other parties see it as a signal that they can also raise the price.

Remember when Android phones used to be like $400-500? Apple saw the end of that, others followed their lead. To this day you can still buy very good phones for that price, but the majority of phones have moved into the $1k+ market.

Honestly I’m okay with games being priced at whatever they’re worth instead of some arbitrary fixed price based on industry norms.

That’s one of the situations that’s perfect for EVs because they have tons of torque but also can run in reverse, thus saving you brakes from overheating and wearing out, while actually recharging the battery. Was cool when I went to Colorado watching the % trickle up as I descended down a mountain.

It’s not. Craigslist is actually way better…

The problem is there are countless knockoffs that look the same but absolutely are not and there’s no way to tell which ones are 1:1 clones or not.

Yeah I mean they should include a standard double-DIN radio with Android Auto. Or at least make it optional. Using a Bluetooth speaker is ridiculous and will sound awful. And the battery will probably explode being it’s kept in a hot vehicle…

Why doesn't Steam support Android?
Steam revenue estimated 2024: $10.8B Google Play Store gaming revenue 2024: ~$31B Why doesn't Valve want a part of that? I mean they already have an Android app. Several, actually. I realize there's some amount of investment but surely the payoff is worth it, and they have the necessary funds and skills? I mean if F-Droid can do it with nothing but volunteers and grants...? Certainly plenty of games won't lend themselves well to the mobile experience but also plenty of them do. From a personal perspective: I don't really care a whole lot for mobile games but I do like Balatro and want to play it on my phone, but if I want to do that I have to buy another license, which I can't even do because I don't run Google Play Services. Epic got in on this already. Where's Valve? *** Edit: my reflections on this conversation: Valve could distribute their own app like Epic but they'd also probably have to remove it from the Play Store because now a cross-platform game would give them an Android version, thus breaking Google's ToS. So would doing such a thing outweigh lost sales from the Google version, and would it impact customer satisfaction? I wonder how many people are actually purchasing PC games in the Steam Android app...?
