A large instance only needs a fraction of users to donate to be viable mastodon.social has like 100k users and they run on donations

I’m not convinced meta is even intending to join the fediverse I think it’s far more likely they use activitypub to link Instagram Facebook and threads together and they never join the fediverse

Only defense is to defederate meta and any instance that chooses to federate with meta
