What is something (feature, modes, settings...) you would like to see become a standard in video games?
I've been thinking about making this thread for a few days. Sometimes, I play a game and it has some very basic features that are just not in every other game and I think to myself: *Why is this not standard?!* and I wanted to know what were yours. I'm talking purely about in-game features. **I'm not talking about wanting games to have no microtransactions or to be launch in an actually playable state** because, while I agree this problem is so large it's basically a selling when it's not here... **I think it's a different subject and it's not what I want this to be about**, even if we could talk about that for hours too. Anyway. For me, it would simply be this. ***Options. Options. Options.*** Just... give me more of those. I love me some more settings and ways to tweak my experience. Here are a few things that immediatly jump to my mind: - Let me move the HUD however I want it. - Take the Sony route and give me a ton of accessibility features, because not only is making sure everyone can enjoy your game cool, but hey, these are not *just* accessibility features, at the end of the day, they're just more options and I often make use of them. - **This one was actually the thing that made me want to make this post:** For the love of everything, let me choose my languages! Let me pick which language I want for the voices and which language I want for the interface seperatly, don't make me change my whole Steam language or console language just to get those, please! - **For multiplayer games:** Let people host their own servers. Just like it used to be. I'm so done with buying games that will inevitably die with no way of playing them ever again in five years because the company behind it shut down the servers. for it *(Oh and on that note, bring back server browsers as an option too.)* **What about you?** What feature, setting, mode or whatever did you encounter in a game that instantly made you wish it would in every other games? --- **EDIT:** > I had a feeling a post like this would interest you. :3 > > I am glad you liked this post. It's gotten quite a lot of engagement, much more than I expected and I expected it to do well, as it's an interesting topic. I want you to know that I appreciate all of you who took the time to interact with it You've all had great suggestion for the most part, and it's been quite interesting to read what is important to you in video games. > > I now have newly formed appreciation from some aspects of games that I completely ignored and there are now quite a lot of things that I want to see become standard to. Especially some of you have troubles with accessibility, like text being read aloud which is not common enough. > > **Something that keeps on popping up is indeed more accessibility features.** It makes me think we really need a database online for games which would detail and allow filtering of games by the type of accessibility features they have. As some features are quite rare to see but also kind of vital for some people to enjoy their games. That way, people wouldn't have to buy a game or do extensive research to see if a game covers their needs. I'm leaving this here, so hopefully someone smarter than me and with the knowledge on how to do this could work on it. Or maybe it already exists and in this case I invite you to post it. :) > > While I did not answer most of you, I did try and read the vast majority of the things that landed in my notifications. > > There you go. I'm just really happy that you liked this post. :)

I mean, it’s hard to ignore the “Shoddy PC ports” when it’s your main platform and if that applies to you, and you mostly play big budget games, well so far, this year has mostly been fucking awful.

And like every other DRM, it’s just going to be something that the people who bought the game and play it unaltered will be forced to deal with in one way or another… while those who modify the game, emulate or pirate it, won’t. I love DRMs. Nothing like feeling like a sucker for actually buying the game and not cracking it.

Yeah, personally, I’d recommend to keep in mind that this probably won’t be as much of a GTA 6 as much as it’ll be just GTA Online 2…

It’s Apple we’re talking about, I’m being realistic. Plus, that would require two OSes on the device. iPadOS is not really another OS, just iOS for larger devices.

Honestly, some kind of dock that would turn iOS into iPadOS on a display sounds kinda neat.

That Macbook was too ahead of its time… 12 inches was such a good size. It was so thin, too. Wish they’d make a MacBook SE or some sort and bring it back with an M1 or M2 chip in it.

I wonder how they’re going to announce it at their keynote. Because Apple was strong armed into doing this they didn’t want to. At all. They kicked and screamed the whole way but they did comply.

So. Will they present it as an evolution like they almost invented the thing? Will they be passive aggressive about it? Or will they just say nothing about it.

I’m also expecting Apple to basically use the worst USB-C standard possible, which, just like Lightning, will basically be USB 2 in terms of speeds and so on. At least on the non-pro models. :/

Yup. We voted for him in the second turn of the elections because, it was either that or facism… and we got facism-lite (less and less lite, with each passing day) laying the ground work and colluding with Le Pen and her cronies. Fucking wonderful.

Why does my country keeps doing shit like this! I wasn’t even aware of that one, what the hell! ;-;

Oh my god this comment section is annoying…

Yes, we get it! It’s a Chromium fork!

Chrome bad, Firefox good, we know.

And there are plenty of reasons as to why it’s a bad thing but come on, probably more than half of the comments is just this. There’s a lot more to it.

I don’t use Arc, because the whole company gives me “bullshit vibes”. The whole startup thing with big ideas and bright colors… and no concrete monetisation plan… I don’t know. I’ve seen too much of that and I can’t trust it. That and the whole “wanting to integrate AI@ just raises the “startup bullshit” meter even more for me.

However. I’m keeping an eye on it, and I did got to try it during its invite phase and, it sure is something else. This is not just another Chromium fork. It does indeed have big ideas about UI and UX design and challenges the way we do things when browsing the web. It’s trying to be something new and innovative. I respect that.

Web browsers have been feeling the same for years and years. To the average user, there’s no fundamental difference between Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge, or Safari, other than: “They look slightly different ” and “This one looks like a crypto bullshit scam”. They will instantly notice the difference with Arc. It looks actually different and it feels different, because it is.

Honestly, after this, and hearing some of his recent interviews: I am genuinely convinced that not only is Elon Musk not a genius, but he possess subpar intelligence. You can’t convince me otherwise, I am 100% convinced that the dude is just a clinical moron.

There has been a meme comparing Elon Musk to Wheatley from Portal 2 being put in charge of the whole Aperture Science center and it immediately going to shit, because this robot was literally purposely designed to be a moron… It keeps on getting truer.

To me, he is like Trump, people thinking the dude is a genius, and he’s constantly playing 4D chess, but over time, everything ends up proving that the simplest theory is the correct one, the dude is just a fucking idiot. A man so profoundly stupid at their core that people had to convince themselves, he actually was a secret genius for their nonsense to make sense, like believing that Jar Jar Binks was secretly a mastermind Sith Lord.

If there ever was a perfect demonstration of wealth not equating intelligence, or even merit, the absolute inexistence of meritocracy, this might be it.

I remember the conspiracy theory that was going on in the right wing circles of the internet a few years ago, where people like Tim Pool were saying that the blue checkmark was an attempt from Twitter to create a “privileged class on Twitter”…

All of those people are the ones that Elon’s been pandering so hard to and look at Twitter now.

Why is it with these people, that them who cry wolf so often, also turns out to be the wolves so often?

Well, fuck you and your shitty game then. Wasn’t interested in the first place, but this kills any possibility of that ever changing.

Last game I played on it, yesterday, was Just Cause 3. It’s… not great. The game just doesn’t run consistently enough and is too CPU heavy.

I recently played Red Dead Redemption 2 on it, that was great. Surprisingly so. I’m playing Skyrim now. I’ve had the game for years but never took the time to properly get into it. I beat the main quest and messed with mods back in the day but that’s it.

Now, I’m playing it vanilla and I want to just go deep into the game, completely ignoring the main quest, I don’t want to be the hero, if the universe needs saving, it can find someone else. Khajiit have caves to explore and stuff. Oh and the new Survival Mode is neat!

So, it’s basically a Twitter version of LinkedIn. Thanks, I hate it.

Someone already mentionned Dorfromantik. I’m doubling this. I also have a recommandation. It’s not exactly what you asked for. But maybe give Superflight a shot. It’s been one of my go to “I’m listenning to something but needs something to keep busy” game for me for years now.

EDIT: Oh no! Someone already mentionned this game as well! Oh well. Doubling that too.
