Two years later, did it live up to your expectations?

How’s it going? Did you get any insight into what he thinks about yet?

Were you able to move out yet? How are things going?

It happened by chance the first few times. Projects were failing and management wanted more resources, I was assigned and noticed problems that hadn’t been noticed. After a few different projects with different issues, I became the default guy to call into ongoing projects. At the time I had already rejected a few promotions because I didn’t like any of the other roles above my position, so I eventually asked management to create a new role for me based on that.

Software Diagnosticist, maybe?

My main role lately has been to jump into failing projects and put them back on track, then leave it back with its own team. Sometimes I’m debugging software, other times I’m “debugging” processes or even team structures. Occasionally even the whole idea behind some project is just messed up and nobody realized.

I’m enjoying Zen browser in general but still facing several issues with it from time to time. Nothing major, just small nuisanses here and there.

I use it alongside Vivaldi since I often have to be logged in into two different sessions for the same site and it’s just easier to have two browsers for that. Vivaldi is a lot more stable and so I use it as the main browser - but everytime it updates I need to modify a JS file to tweak something in the UI to make it the way I like it to be. When using vertical tabs + tab groups + two layers of tabs (one sidebar showing the tab groups and a second sidebar showing the tabs inside the selected group), the maximum tab width is applied to both sidebars together instead of individually, so I modify the JS file to double that max width. I’ve automated it by now but it still annoys me that I keep having to do this.

But I think Vivaldi is probably the only browser that even has the ability to show tabs in that way, so I can’t complain that much.

I would waste more time going to work four times in a week than I would get back by dropping Fridays. I’m never going back to the office.

Productive, as long as you don’t need to run something by someone from a different shift. When you do you pretty much delay that task for a day or lose a whole night’s work trying to figure out ways to get around whatever made you need that person.

Because it impresses people and so it sells. If they didn’t do that, all those EAs and Ubisofts would have to find a new selling point like making their games good or something.

Technically they weren’t part of the cheat, just needed to start the game. A lot of games at the time also copied the Konami sequence but handled the ending differently.

Outside of America, this is interpreted as a reference to Scary Movie instead of the budweiser ad.

On the subject of remote working being more productive or not, my anedoctal experience is that when remote working is fully embraced, the productivity skyrockets, but when it is embraced half-way it may have a negative effect.

When 2/3 of the employees are in an office, they tend to reach out to one another to discuss things and remote workers often get out of the loop. When everyone is working remotely, these discussions happen on slack channels for everyone to see. And if they are written down in a channel, folks can read it as many times as they need to ensure nothing was missed.

This may seem not to be too important, but it makes a massive difference at the end of the day. And you could try to make that happen without remote working but people will not stop walking out to someone else’s cubicle for small questions when they have that option.

I’m still a widow of robo3t. I still use it over any alternative but every time I need to setup a new machine I find it harder to download than before. It’s also throwing a lot of errors with newer mongo versions.

Both studio 3t and compass have an interface that just doesn’t feel right to me.

Well, anything that can consistently be changed with hard work is ultimately a choice in the same way. Not everyone can deal with the amount of effort needed to lose weight. When you have accumulated awful habits, you need a lot of both time and willpower to change them.

Sometimes windows itself will only let games know there’s a controller plugged in after a button is pressed, but connecting a controller with the game already open can usually be detected just fine.

It’s xenogears, a jrpg squaresoft released on the golden year of 1998.
