That’s part of what made reddit interesting tho. Having these niche subs that still had a reasonable amount of activity. If they loose that this is the one thing they had over lemmy for me personally. I’ve never been particularly attached to say r/pics but r/aspiememes was the bees knees. They are coming to lemmy by now.

Good match. Let the IPO addict and the cash strapped authoritarian duke it out.

So actions have consequences?

And because your Reddit account can be permabanned at any time by Reddit’s Anti-Evil Operations bot with a modest amount of reporting from a number of sockpuppet accounts, you’re not able to tell these people to fuck off and go to hell when they inevitably ask why you’re discriminating against them and their sickening photos.

I did not know that. That’s a horrible system.

I’m also a big fan of the complete tone deafness of Tim Rathschmidt wanting to help mods mod. After they nuked all the apps with the mod tools.

Not that I ascribe any sort of reddit awareness to Huffman but even then it’s a new level of not understanding his own product. Twitter had oodles of celebrities, politicians, journalists, activists, government accounts, companies and so on and the verification was important before musk ruined it. I’m not sure reddit has actual entities of public life that regularly post. I’ve seen a stray Arnold Schwarzenegger mentioned somewhere and I think a YouTube video about tenacious D responding to fans but that’s it. Who on earth needs verification on reddit as a user?

I think it could lead to a whole load of narcissistic rage to see his brilliant ideas backfire.

I really wonder about bot synergy. How many haiku’s will one not write that another will correct the spelling on and a third find that all words are in alphabetical order?

Product road maps changed in May as the company focused on the API changes and on boosting content creation by users.

Yeah… The api debacle totally boosted content creation…

I’m really fascinated at how in the lead up to this they consistently alienated moderators and users so into reddit that they looked up 3PAs. Like they really went ham on the users that make their site work and go all shocked pikachu when people leave/disengage/protest. That’s a level of social incompetence I can’t conceptualise when the stakes are this high.

as somebody who has several decades of parental abuse to look back on I don’t consider this offensive. on the contrary. spez and reddit follow many entries of the emotional abuse playbook to a t.
