It’s been a few months but yeah, I found those! They’re still full of life though; I wanted to find sincerely dead planets. I did, but they were harder to find. Did manage to find a low gravity planet and jetpack myself into space though, that was fun.

I know, and I still love the game. I would have preferred less populated areas but I still love to play and consider it one of my favorite all times games.

Maybe a minority opinion here, but… I was (and am) a No Man’s Sky fan. One of my biggest issues with the game, though, was that the universe had so much LIFE everywhere. I know that it makes sense in relation to the overall plot (no spoilers) but having life so common made finding life pretty meh. I’d much rather play a game with a huge variety of lifeless planets so finding life, finally, would be massively exciting. Give me sparse life! And a way to escape the confines of settled space while we’re at it.

Why use yearly salary? You’re not paid once a year, are you? Most likely once a month. Referencing monthly salary makes much more sense.

Except plenty of people don’t get paid monthly? I’ve been paid weekly, every other week, twice a month. I’ve been paid daily, I’ve also been paid per project. Once I was paid whenever i asked. Focusing on yearly salaries offers a convenient reference point.

I think they’re referring to the fact that Lemmy from Motorhead (the partial namesake of Lemmy) was a collector of Nazi stuff. Didn’t know that until today!

Is it wrong that I want him to so ruin Twitter than when / if I get moderately rich, I can buy it for a couple of million, Tumblr style and shut it down?

Him and his Minecraft looking head were at least half fooling some people until his more recent shenanigans though!

In this case, the exact spot where Musk"s transformation from supposed tech genius to batshit crazy bigot was completed.

Well we do need somewhere for the creeps and such to go other than here, so yeah.

Why does this feel like one of those “the villain invites all of their rivals to a meeting to end them” situation?

Where’s the fun in that?! Every service needs a silly and relatively useless term to designate its posts. Like… maybe Misskey could have… I dunno… uWus? (I kid, I kid.)

I’m trying to figure out what posts will be. Blubs? Fins?

EDIT: My partner said “bubbles.” She’s much smarter than I am it seems.

Not making fun; I think the name is fine… and the new features look promising too!

This should be named the “Attempting to Kill Open Source Software by Imposing Impossible Burdens on the Same Act.” I’m not sure that they intended this to destroy open source projects but… it may have that effect regardless.

You can try loading the Aurora Store, setting it to spoof a different device. I’m not sure if it’ll work, but its a no cost test.

There are also some G8 LineageOS ports which (if applicable) would upgrade you to Android 11. That’s a lot of effort for a few games though.

Thank you for this. I think this community gets hung up on the “migration as activism” thing and forgets that there are other reasons to migrate too. Getting banned from Reddit for what one thinks is an unfair reason is certainly one of them. Heck, just getting bored and popping over to check out Kbin or the fediverse generally is valid too.

I mean heck, birds migrate back and forth. Maybe we should be focusing on building a place that people want to be.

Building an Instance, Ever So Slowly.
Thank you to everyone who offered advice in my "where do I host this" thread. I appreciate the insight and it absolutely helped me narrow down how and what to look for. So, I've selected a host... and now I have to configure everything. I have root access, a solid VPS, and... well, I need the time to do it, but I should be able to find a moment or two! Any tips, tricks, Items of Grave Concern?

I do like the 8 views test, though even the political compass would be better than the current “two views” model.

Moderate has taken a negative connotation in the US, alas, where it means “okay with hurting some people but not as many as THOSE folk.” Moderation in approach, I can get behind depending on the issue.

Why not both? Don’t feed the troll, report for breaking the rules, and then if you’re extra salty, block them too.

It’s fair to want to ostracize those who claim to be “moderate” who are anything but, absolutely. Concerning civil and political rights, there should BE no moderate. Either you support people’s fundamental rights or you do not. Either you support everyone’s right to love, sex, and associate with consenting adults or you do not. Either you support people’s right to choose what to do with their bodies or you do not. There’s little left to discuss.

Having said that, the US (and the world generally) has a terrible record, left or right, in supporting people’s civil and political rights. I’m overjoyed that at least left leaning folk now support those rights, but it wasn’t a decade or two ago that those on the left of the political spectrum were parroting many of the same things that the right now parrots. “Marriage is between a man and a woman.” “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” So while I am glad they’ve shifted, I’m always concerned that if the political winds shift again, those in power will sacrifice individual rights in the name of maintaining said power as they did before they decided that advocating for our rights was going to keep them elected.

Good Hosting Options - Kbin (and Mastodon)?
Hello federated party people! My partner and I have been contemplating hosting our own instance and I think we're about 80% of the way there. However, finding a host to host our instance(s) isn't particularly easy; there are hosts that are explicitly pro-federation, but those are few and far between. Self-hosting is not an option, alas. So, who do you use, if you host an instance? How do you like the experience? Anything we need to be aware of before we dive right in? We're both technically savvy, but the back-end of federation isn't something either of us have messed with. Our sincere thanks in advance... and viva la fedeloution!

Hmm, maybe instead of pay to play awards, we could give each user X number of “boosts” per day to vote on content to be featured? Perhaps with older / more active accounts getting a few more over time?

Reddit Exodus: How to Request your User Data (& Why You Might Want to)
Tired of Reddit's recent shenanigans and want to cause them a little bit of pain? Well now, my friends... why not add "request all of the things" to your Reddit exodus? The link to the appropriate page is here: [https://www.reddit.com/policies/privacy-policy#policy-h2-2](https://www.reddit.com/policies/privacy-policy#policy-h2-2) So, why might you want to request a copy of your data? First, the collection they (eventually) send to you will contain your entire post / comment history, allowing you to (in theory) use that collection to remove all of your posts versus the last 1000 or so of each. There's no guarantee that Reddit won't restore those posts, of course, but at least you tried! Second, you can scour the data for personally identifiable information (PII.) Your local laws may entitle you to removal of PII, so if you're inclined to purge the Reddit record of information that can identify your OMG real self... that dataset may help. Third, you'll have a copy of your Reddit history. All those epic ideas will be in your hands, not theirs, safe to share elsewhere as you please. While you may not have the right to revoke the *license* you gave Reddit by posting there, you can most assuredly re-use your post as you please, wherever else you please. Fourth, and lastly? If everyone submits data requests, Reddit's team has to spend the time (and money) to pull your data. it might be a small thing, but inundating Reddit with tens of thousands of data requests that they're legally obligated to provide is both wise (for you) and at least a little bit costly (for them.) Addendum: If you want to make things a little harder (at risk of them not responding) you can use their privacy email versus their form. That way, someone likely has to verify that X request is tied to Y account.
