Deleted my Reddit acc during the APIcalypse. Lemmy is just awesome.

Great addition, thanks. There are similar online prescription glass webshops in Europe as well. They just need your eye exam results, some basic measurements of your head and they can cheaply make great glasses/sunglasses.

Its probably not the best answer you looking for but since I use prescription glasses for driving I always get a pair of prescription sunglasses as well. I can choose the frame, the lense and the type of coating on it (usually go for polarized/anti-reflection).Even my health insurance works on these so I can claim back some money from the price since its qualifies as regular prescription glasses (EU). Just need a descent enough optometrist. Some places even allow you to re-use existing frames and you only paying for the eye exam and lenses)

They are not cheap for sure (100-200 euros minimum for frame + lenses) but for me its a great long term investment.

Same here. Never looked back. Lemmy + mastodon are both amazing and I love that there are no ads or manipulative algorithms.

Now testing pixelfed.

Mályvacukor (hungarian) - translates to mallow candy / mallow sugar

Hi Steve! How are you doing?.. Good!..No last night was great! , yes I’m in the office…I need to pick up the stuff for the birthday party? Ok no problem, can you send me the address? …oh you driving, okay let me write it down… Hold on, I will put you on the loudspeaker so I can open my notes application… please don’t say anything embarrassing, I have like 10 co workers around me… Uh-um…

Maybe not better than an average person, but the last 10 years of my life taught me lots of handy life skills, like owning up to my mistakes, having more self esteem, showing confidence in tough situations, standing up for myself, having better people skills and to know when not to get involved and when to speak up.

Most of these are basic human skills, but the combination of these can make a huge difference. I landed jobs thanks to them, I made friends and removed toxic people from my life. I have less issues with adult responsibilities and in general I am less stressed.

Again maybe not exceptionally more experienced than an average person, but compared to my old self its a huge difference.

It’s not a life hack, but I try to be polite and open with people to a reasonable extent. I turned around several internet arguments with this attitude, even when we had a different opinion at the end there was no toxicity.

There are always the unreasonable idiots and straight up crazies and of course the trolls. Well fuck those people, just block them 👍

Serj Tankien

I am a huge Soad fan, but his solo career also counts. The guy has a one in a billion voice, amazing range!

If you have an office job with projects, deadlines and zoom meetings, especially when your job is interconnected with other colleagues and departments, then its an absolutely stupid idea. It always sounded like a HR buzzword or even borderline corporate propaganda showing people with laptops on a beaches and forests, etc. You can either not fully enjoy your holiday or not do your job properly.

If you more on a freelance side, or have a type of job where you can have a few productive hours a day to cover your full workday/responsibilities and still have time to enjoy your surroundings then go for it.

I would personally never do it.

One of the reasons I had Xiaomy phones in the past 5 years. Many models still have IR blaster.

Funny thing is I work for a company who manufactures products with infrared sensors and we have an app specifically for IR capable snartphones to fine tune these products. In the past 5 years I did not see a single client who would have IR on their phones, so basically the app is not used by a single person anymore. Either this or they can buy our official remote… for 200 euros a piece.

I personally would not use one, but make sure to search the loocks name on youtube. There is a channel dedicated to this stuff (The lockpicking lawyer) and most electric door locks are a not very secure.

I usually don’t like Tom Cruse but the movie is awesome. Saw it many times.

As one stand up comedian once said: the biggest issue is not what to do with the money, but how to keep it secret from the people around you

When in an argument I want the ability to know what my opponent has to say in advance so I can always interrupt and finish their sentences. Every single one of them.

I have the audiobook of the second one, can’t wait to start it.

As for similar titles I never come accross anything like this. The only one which comes to mind is “We Are Legion (We Are Bob)” by Dennis E. Taylor. Its about an IT guy, Bob, whos mind gets uploaded to a computer and a century later the company puts him in charge of a self-sufficient space probe. Bob becomes a space traveller, gathers resources and creates more instances of himself. He finds new worlds, helps civilizations raise and makes enemies along the way while more and more Bobs joins the story through space and time. Its really lighthearted and less serious but I enjoyed it a lot. It has the similar " story throughout the centuries" trope.

The first one was one of the most memorable books I ever read. The idea is so insane, yet works great and I found myself rooting for the spiders so badly.

Yes, drinking alcohol is one of his go to activities, but I think he genuinely beleives he can buy great gifts.
