The limited edition wasn’t limited in the sense they planned to stop making them. It’s their flagship. This is what I got off of a few articles. If they are still shipping chips to people, it wasn’t clear from a few places I read this from. Additionally battlemage information seems to be all from leaks.

Either way with how shotty the drivers have been went how little hardware has been available to place blame at video game developers for not supporting their cards is silly.

Yeah, that makes sense. They probably can’t properly support a video card they couldn’t get their hands on due to Intel not shipping it until late last year. They also aren’t that powerful of cards. Lastly the Intel drivers are brand new. Most engines are not treated against them, as such there are a lot of corruption bugs. Which makes sense because they weren’t able to get the cards early enough to support them. Since Intel has now discontinued their flagship arc card not even a year after release it’s unlikely any games will really support Intel gpus in the future.

I’ve literally not seen any of the ads you are talking about (besides an office 365 install prompt at the end of an install) but I run a windows debloater tool on every install since windows 7. I also never had an update mess with the debloater stuff or turn ads back on.

If that was said, it was likely purely a joke. You don’t fund a game for a tax write-off. You only get 10% of what you put into the game as a tax write-off and so you are operating at a 90% loss on whatever you put into it.

The same can be said about the Windows ads. It’s just a checkbox to turn off tips. Tips are useful a lot of the time so people don’t want to turn them off. The second a tip isn’t useful it’s seen as an ad.

Linux includes ads built into Firefox in a lot of the popular distros.

Counter strike makes any single player shooter trivial. The best they can do for difficulty is make headshots not actually kill the target in 2 or 3 shots.

Platformers are easy after super meat boy.

The original Deus Ex will train you to explore and scrounge for every bit of ammo. Making your skills from counter-strike even more valuable.

I recently had to adjust ublock origin manually after ads started popping up on youtube.

I’ve never had an issue with Firefox extension sync. Is it something like extension settings not getting synced? I’ve never paid attention to those.

Ah, it’s 6 steps to unlock experimental features that may crash and enable the tabbed UI. Interesting, also, it looks brand new. FreeOffice has constantly kept compatibility with Docx and MSOffice whereas Libre is very well known for having formatting differences between it and MSOffice. FreeOffice is also fairly more stable in my experience. I’ve never had it crash on me where LibreOffice, even without the experimental features turned on, has crashed or failed to open a lot of files for me in the past.

Overall I’d love to see Libre succeed more than Free but I also have work to get done. I need things to work flawlessly, especially when it comes to documents. If I have to fuss around in experimental settings that straight-up say they may crash then I’m out. I can’t be wasting my time like that.

Without any context, which we don’t have, this is victim blaming. Maybe they go out all the time. Maybe their mom is controlling and abusive. Maybe op is just paranoid and their mom would never use the knife trick. We can only work from the information we have.

Free office is very good to. Better then libre and actually keeps the ribbon system which is awesome and elegant.

The report button should route it to the post instance moderators. If the moderators on an instance suck then it’s time to defederate from them. No reason to keep in contact with bigots.

Good moderators on your instance should solve that, not just leave it up to the votes.

Those are usually locked away behind command lines and they don’t test with random chance or such. You trigger the things directly. Realistically what probably happened is some engineer wrote the system slightly wrong and no one caught it. Possibly maybe a designer requested the romance to be more prominent and the solution on engineering side was to tweak a value. It’s be surprised if anyone changes hard coded values for QA. It’s not the 90s anymore where qa is the engineering team.

It’s still all the one but Seattle has moved into a big corporate city and doesn’t support the same sort of people as Portland does.

I’m 10 years into my games career and one of the main reasons I’m still in it is that I’ve worked for indie studios for most of my career.

I’ve worked rarely for AAA studios and they are soulless and long hours. It’s not fun, it’s not creative, it’s not about creating personal art. It’s about creating a product to make profits. They’re really fun games a lot of the time but they get there by limiting who can contribute to what.

An engineer trying to give feedback on design gets shut down. A lot of smaller studios are the opposite and people wear multiple hats daily. I love wearing multiple hats and it helps me understand my own art creation process.

Some folks in the industry as well only see this like a job not an expression of themselves through art. That’s fine but limits them to studios who only want workers not artists.

That said, the average has came up. About 10 years ago that average time in the industry was 5 years. Now it’s 7. People are finding the industry more and more stable but the industry does have a problem keeping juniors. I almost left the industry several times but as I got over 5 years I started to see a change in job offers. Lots more recruiters contacting me. At 10 years I’ve started to see a lot more people wanting to pay me for an hour talk. It becomes easier to stay in the industry as you gain experience but those first 5 years are really rough.

Portland and Seattle are fairly opposites. Keep Portland weird and all. Seattle is also a big tech hub and that means a lot of quiet, shy, introverted engineers. Portland has tech but not as much.

It also gets cooler in the winter though. Much more chaotic weather in the future.

How was inside for you?
I just finished inside and wanted to see how people felt about it in 2023. Everything I've read about it around 2016-2017 seems to regard it as the best game of the year and in some cases one of the best of all time. It's this truly still the consensus?

what's some of the best dialogue systems you've seen and why?
I've been closely studying dialogue and cinematography in video games lately. Try to detach the dialogue system from the dialogue. What's the best? Was it technically multiple systems or just one?

What game mechanics do you love and hate?
I love hearing about unique takes on game mechanics. Someone recently convinced me that limited inventories are kind of abused currently and that unlimited inventory systems would give more player choices.

Copyright and why it's broken. - Tom Scott
So recently there has been a lot of debate on AI-generated art and its copyright. I've read a lot of comments recently that made me think of this video and I want to highly encourage everyone to watch it, maybe even watch it again if you already viewed it. Watch it specifically with the question "If an AI did it, would it change anything?" Right now, AI-generated works aren't copyrightable. https://www.artnews.com/art-news/news/ai-generator-art-text-us-copyright-policy-1234661683/ This means you can not copyright the works produced by AI. I work in games so this is more seemingly relevant to me than maybe it is to you. https://techcrunch.com/2023/07/03/valve-responds-to-claims-it-has-banned-ai-generated-games-from-steam/ Steam has outright said, earlier this month, that it will not publish games on its platform without understanding if the training data has been of images that aren't public domain. So right now, common AI is producing works that are potentially copyright-infringing works and are unable to be copyrighted themselves. So with this information, should copyright exist, and if not, how do you encourage artists and scientists to produce works if they no longer can make a living off of it?
