Your comment is a perfect example of the pants-shittingly off-topic LGBTphobic nonsense I was receiving in the other thread, so thanks for proving my point.

You … you do realize that trans people and other “queerer” people than me engage in same-sex marriage too, right? And that it’s objectively homophobic for a policy to exist forbidding same-sex marriage while permitting heterosexual marriage? And that not all trans people are poly? I know people that fit all of the above, and every one of them deserves validation, and it would be unfathomably LGBTphobic for me to arbitrarily determine which ones are “queer enough” to be part of the community. You don’t see the problem with this line of thinking, with your entire statement? Of course you do, you’re just being deliberately cruel for your own amusement.

There it is, folks. Exhibit A

Edit: That user is a moderator on !worldnews@lemmy.ml

I’m unsubscribing immediately! And I blocked and reported that user, too.

My love is for all the LGBT+ community, and for the straight cis community as well. I just want equity. For anyone who had to read that homophobic comment above, just know that I do care, and I’m here for you.

Thought I should add it was them informing me that certain countries banning same-sex marriage while endorsing heterosexual marriage is just fine, actually. They espoused an objectively homophobic belief, and when I referenced my own marriage, they switched to calling me ignorant about anarchism. There are anarchist texts exploring the issue and some of the potential problems with traditions like marriage, but it’s not dogma. Nor do I view my own relationship as hierarchical.

TL;DR They were being objectively homophobic.

I can’t speak about lemmygrad since the instances I’m on all defederate from it, but Hexbear users have a reputation for being generally aggressive, grating, and immature. It’s like that kid in class who keeps interrupting the teacher because they think they’re funny and clever. e.g., some were screaming at me that I can’t be an anarchist and I know nothing about anarchism since I’m married, replying with third-grade tier memes for some confusing reason

This is all disappointing, to say the least, but I’m convinced. I won’t be using archive.today anymore.

In what way is it “very handy for the rest of us”?

I’d be amiss to say I’ve never seen any good content from those, but I do agree that the vast majority of content from those instances is trash, although I can’t speak of lemmygrad since all three instances I’m on block that one.

I’d also like to block .world, just because so much of it feels like a carbon copy of reddit, including the enlightened centrists and debatelords. I’ve seen some really good users and communities from there, but not really worth the hassle.

Hopefully one day we’ll have the ability to block entire instances at the user level. That would be really nice.

Don’t forget the amazing headset deals!

I can confirm that I’ve reported several spam accounts that were doing nothing but post links to their Amazon Affiliate sites. Reporting definitely does some good, in my experience, but I guess it depends on the instance admins.

The person I reported was on Kbin: Jumper74, Jumper75, and then Jumper76, and there’s probably a Jumper77 now too, who knows?

Sadly, I don’t think kbin themselves took any action, and I’m not even sure they were able to see my reports.

The email analogy really made it click for me. And to extend the analogy, I think of platforms like Mastodon and Kbin like SMS. They can fully communicate with Lemmy, but with some minor idiosyncrasies.

Honestly, I did pretty well (except the last one which I had no way of knowing was a legitimate web site – and what the hell kind of name is that for a legitimate site anyway? But I digress…), but I would have taken steps to verify every single one of these before taking any further action. I just inherently distrust email and SMS messages.

The crosshairs/reticule in Elder Scrolls Online. I know it can be disabled with a mod, but the fact that disabling it when your weapon is sheathed is not a basic setting is completely baffling.

Smug debatelords who “win” the argument they think they’re having with you on a technicality such as spelling or semantics

I’ve had people try talking me into using my main rig as a full Linux system, but I think I’d never do anything except dual boot because I appreciate the performance I get for games that don’t support native Linux way too much for that.

If it weren’t for gaming, I’d gladly take the plunge.

I actually think I’m going to enjoy trying out different versions. The official Linux Mint forums pretty much say no dual boot, go all in, but shhhhh don’t tell them that dual booting actually works just fine lol

Does this comment seem fresher from Linux :P

I finally got Linux Mint set up and joined the forums. First I tried it as a dual boot, but my old laptop never played well with Windows anyway, so I went ahead and did a full install. It’s got a HDD so I don’t feel to concerned about using this as a test machine and overwriting multiple times.

After I use this for a while, I want to try some of your recommendations. Then once I find exactly what I want, I’ll consider what I want to do with my main rig. Some people have warned against dual booting, but it worked just fine for the short time I had it set up like that.

Anyway, I still have your comment saved for reference, so thanks!

I have an old laptop that I’m planning to use to test different versions of Linux so I can get a feel for it. I will let you know if I have questions. I appreciate the kind offer!

Thanks, I’ll bookmark your comment so I can come back to it

Hell yeah! It even performs better for me than either ReVanced or the official YouTube app

Good point. Privacy usually means sacrificing some level of convenience.

Meanwhile, I find most of these convenience tools such as the “Modes and Routines” app and Google Maps timeline to be creepy and dystopian as fuck.

It just seems much better for me to set up a dual boot. I know it’s more work, but it’s not like it’s irreversible, and I think it would give me a better experience overall.
