It’s because they’re used to male perspective being the default focal lense for all media they consume. Male gaze is more about perspective than it is about aesthetics, something that has seemingly failed to translate into current online discourse.
In essence, all media in a genre they deem belongs to them must see them as their primary audience and must reinforce the perspective they feel is theirs. It’s a kind of patriarchal social egocentrism. Women can exist in those pieces of media, but they have to be defined in relation to a male perspective. This can be a male character within the same work, or it can even be the audience itself by presuming the audience is male.
It’s been so pervasive throughout media over the years that they think of this as being “just how media is”. When media deviates in really any way that media becomes the aberration of the norm. It can be as simple as one of the female characters having a side plot about her that doesn’t involve any of the men, or a female character who isn’t sexually appealing to what the current male psyche desires. The media in question becomes inherently an act of political activism. A transgression.
It’s notable that media from genres deemed not “belonging to the male perspective” is not judged the same way. Men do not become outraged at chick flicks or romcoms or romance novels. They don’t become outraged at drama TV shows made for women about women. Because those things are socially permitted to exist outside of men’s perspectives. It’s usually seen as unique when a man enjoys media that has a female perspective. It’s assumed that he won’t. This essentially means that female perspectives in genres they do see as belonging to them comes across as an explicit attack on them. They avoid the female perspective as much as possible, they denigrate it and demean/belittle it constantly. They do not want to be forced to see the female perspective and will actively resist it.
There’s lots of examples that go beyond this. Lots of media over the past hundred years has broken the rules and been lauded instead of denigrated. But we live in a time where an organized effort exists specifically to promote patriarchal thinking among men and those efforts mean that more scrutiny is being applied to this than ever before. There are entire content engines driving constantly to produce as much patriarchal outrage content as possible, all the time. And it works.
These problems existed long, long before the modern far-right movement started. It’s partly why it works so well. This male egotism in media existed before, and less resistance to it also used to exist. That change in social atmosphere means that men can be manipulated into further and further misogynistic beliefs. All it takes is dogwhistles and a loud, angry, entitled male gamer, and you can radicalize thousands of people into misogyny. And they will repeat that cycle with more or less any boy or man they know.
To make a long story short, anxiety about their perspective not being the default in their favorite genres of media presents a great opportunity to turn young men into fascists. The far right has capitalized on this, and that’s why you see so much outrage about it online. It’s also likely that algorithms have picked up on you being male and will probably show you more of this exact type of outrage content.
How could you save a png then? We’re talking about digital files where you can absolutely copy a file without facing any legal repercussions for doing so. Copy paste is the same as making a copy of a work and would make sense under copyright law to be illegal. But its not because that’s ridiculous, and no one will ever be charged for going to Google image search and looking at a copyrighted picture on the screen. Its also not illegal for humans to learn from the art of someone else and then create similar art. I dont know how you can or would be able to even detect that someone has trained an AI for this purpose. Training modern AI with pre-made models to draw a specific person or character in a specific art style is trivial. Its hard to do it if you’re unfamiliar but it requires very few training materials to become very effective. ControlNet and LORA have made this possible. So how could you even tell if someone made such a model, they’ve only downloaded a dozen pictures and there is no effective way to tell that they’ve then trained this model. It would have to come down to their creations being noticeable enough to charge them. Either through profiting from it or by posting that content online.

Yes, and personal use exists so that people who are not profiting in any way off of someone else’s copyright are not chargeable under copyright law. Hence why I can download a jpg of an artists painting and that action alone is not breaking any law.
If my AI is not being used to make money, and it is also not being used to slander someone or harass someone, then what law exactly would I be breaking? How would I be harming someone else, by having an AI that I use solely personally and am in no way benefiting from? Can you sue someone for taking a DVD, ripping it, and then rearranging the scenes in a new video file? Have they broken a law solely by creating a derivative work using the original material, even if that work is not making them money and they are commiting no other crime using that work?
AI has only been capable of… half imitating those things for like a year and a half. And most uses are non commercial, and there is not established case law for personal usage of generative artificial intelligence. It would be hard to sue someone for something they aren’t profiting from, or that they are not using as a form of slander or libel or harassment.
The EU, the UK, and the US are all currently developing new laws surrounding the usage of AI. But this is all incredibly new and therefore in progress.
Just being a shitty mod would do a lot on a wide scale. Use only the official tools. Have a timer on your phone for how much time you will put into moderation per day. Lax up on rules. Disable all 3rd party mod tools.

You can’t just keep private anymore. Reddit admins and the reddit ceo have both said they’re no longer interested in maintaining a community run website. They can and will begin taking over subs and making them admin run. They’re going to have to rely heavily on bots for moderation, which will obviously result in massively deteriorated quality for a significant portion of the website.
The end result is reddit rebranding itself entirely. Maybe eventually they’ll do away entirely with community controlled subreddits, and instead maintain only the most popular ones. I don’t trust a single thing they say anymore, but their actions show they’re committed to morphing reddit into a newer corporate-centric social media. They will naturally shift to a model of scraping and selling user data to make up for what will inevitably be a massive decline in profits.
The fascists own all the media organizations. The population has been taught systematically since birth to have unyielding blind faith in the institutions of the state and capital. Many won’t understand that anything unusual is happening until they’re hungry and cold, burying empty caskets for their drafted children sent to die in fascist wars of conquest.
