Widor Toccata! I love it when the pedal comes back in, always makes me smile.

Sorry for the very different style

This is one of the reasons cars have such a chokehold, kids don’t bike places as often because of safety concerns.

Nobody should be preventing you from running around with a good stick!

I’m just stubborn, left during the blackout and didn’t want to go back.

By the time they’re going fast enough, they’re high enough they don’t have much air to worry about. (And they do have an angle over too, not just straight up)

Missiles do go more or less go straight though the atmosphere horizontally. Most are slower than what we’re taking about, but hypersonic missiles get close to rocket speeds. And they do need big heat shields to keep from melting immediately.

You’re going much too fast to hit the earth, you’ll miss it and continue in orbit. To deorbit, you’ll need a lot of things to throw in the other direction, like the oxygen from your magic tank. You’d need about a full rocket full of oxygen (~170 tons) to slow down, probably more because the exit velocity would be slower than a rocket.

The other issue with this scheme is you’d slow down too slowly. You’ll start getting slower and lower, but you’d start to get into the atmosphere, which because you’re still going so fast would cause you to not have a great time. So your magic oxygen bottle will also need a massive tube off the end of it, maybe a couple meters in diameter.

But if you had your magic infinite air tank with a huge tube off it, theoretically you could get back down to earth safely with just it, a space suit, and a parachute.

Is there a rule against wishing for more wishes? If not, an unlimited benevolent genie lamp would be the go to.

It’s never going to be all knowledge, since a lot of stuff is just lost or never recorded. A ton of stuff (like this thread) are probably low on the priority list for recording as well. But the closest you’d probably get to a full catalog of human knowledge (at last text based) are the huge data sets of nearly all text data on the internet used for training LLMs. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are ones soon that include video and pictures as well, since newer AI models are starting to be able to interpret those too.

I believe this is one of those data sets: https://github.com/yaodongC/awesome-instruction-dataset

Edit: here’s a big data set used for a lot of gpt3 https://commoncrawl.org/

One of my favorite syfi is the expanse, also highly recommend. Dune and Iain Banks culture are also great.

Do you mean red rising? I’ve heard it’s good but haven’t gotten a chance yet.

Or if you’re attention span is killed like mine, find an audiobook and listen on 2x or 3x. If you happen to have a library card, libby is usually great. Otherwise YouTube has some.

Definitely does in engineering. There’s a lot of stuff you learn on the job, but the stuff from school gives you an idea where to go for more information so you won’t be blind sided as easily.

Lemmy. I’m actually using it more than I used to use Reddit. But I’m also reading more now, so I think I have more free time in general

But why save it at all? Like I don’t think many people save YouTube videos.

Edit: maybe your talking about things in general? I was referring to nsfw

But why would people want to save it at all? I don’t know anyone who saves YouTube videos after watching them.

Some oppressors (indirectly, but essentially) started drawing lines one day and agreed that they would each get to farm the humans in their own territory.

Control goes back further than just territories to tribes. The tribe identity is only later tied to specific locations. Tribes formed because pooling resources burdens and learning was more efficient than doing it all yourself. From there, the tribes expanded and joined together and eventually settled into one location. So I disagree that oppressors just decided one day.

Depends a lot day to day. Sometimes like last week, 7 out of the 8 hours. Today, so far none. Not much useful to do, so just do useless trainings.

I think it sounds great too, but it’s sold out for ages! And we don’t have any reviews yet, so the smaller one is probably better to go with for now.
