This sounds like a great tradition to encourage and support. On Reddit I was pretty danged chatty & responsive, but almost never started my own post. Maybe at most once a year. I hereby commit to upping my participation game to include some actual posts to some of the quiet magazines I’ve subbed to. Thanks for the push.
Yesterday I followed the advice in this Reddit thread (am I allowed to post a Reddit link?) Scroll down to where /u/I_know_bubblesort answers the question about why it’s happening and gives the fork that works.
This is the fork, which I used successfully yesterday. It took 7 hours!!
On another note, I’d love it if someone could tell me why it’s called a fork?
Federation as an ethical concept is completely foreign to Meta. Most of their users LIKE what they have: a huge monolithic social media company. If they want to use something federated, they will make the effort to switch. Might be worthwhile to educate some of those users…maybe. But not to take on Meta wholesale. I agree that eventually the whole concept of this federation would become defunct or at best an anomaly.
Personally I don’t need it to be “polished”, and too much polish would smack of corporate excess to me. I want lively but friendly discussions on a variety of topics that interest me. And it’s fun to watch something grow from early(ish) stages into a more complete package. I hope this will be a good social media home for me.
ETA I upvoted you for good topic and discussion, rather than downvoting in disagreement.
subbed thanks
