Both are usable, but I just don’t understand why you’d choose the separate line style if you were starting a new codebase. I can’t see the benefit of it, but that could also be me not having enough experience with the separate line style to see it’s advantages.

On the other hand, having the brace on the next line means that the parent statement and the code in the braces are further from each other, also more lines in the source file is more scrolling in general. You can fit less lines of code on the same vertical screen height if you have a lot of nested blocks or just generally use a lot of blocks. Especially for things like many small functions or many if blocks, being able to fit a few more on your screen is really convenient IMO.

I live in Vancouver and we’ve had massive issues with people (both tourists and locals) feeding coyotes in our downtown park. It got bad enough that they had to euthanize a bunch of coyotes because they were habituated to humans and have even attacked some people. They’re not puppers, they’re wild animals that play an important role in the ecosystem. You do them literally no favours by feeding them. Also, even worse, feeding bears.

Private property. I don’t actually want to own things for the sake of owning things, I want a stable and reasonably comfortable life. In the current system, the only way to reliably achieve that is to own the things you need in your life. But if the system were such that you could live a decent life without owning a thing, I’ll take that.

And that is with the interpretation of private property as literally any possession you can own. If we go by the socialist interpretation of private property as property used to generate capital, I already have no private property and neither do most people here.

It’s not a crystalline solid so it has an internal structure similar to a liquid, but the structure is definitely solid at room temperature because the components are not capable of moving relative to each other like a liquid would.

Once Lemmy gets large enough (which I believe it will) for those communities to become active I’ll probably stop posting to Reddit. Or if they get rid of the old UI. Whichever comes first.

The Alcantara keyboard cover stated delaminating and the top layer started peeling off just from the friction of resting your hands on it. Started happening within months of getting it.

Battery failed after just a few years of daily use, I’m talking completely refused to charge, you unplug the charger even after leaving it in overnight and the screen goes black instantly. And while most laptops can run just fine with a dead battery as long as you keep it plugged in at all times, not the Surface. The little magnetic connector supplies so little power that the device is forced to down clock to below 1 GHz to keep from shutting down due to undercurrent. And sometimes it shuts down anyway because fuck you.

It’s also glued so tight, and the front glass is so thin, that you basically can’t open it without destroying the screen in the process.

Also, the magnetic charge connector started having contact issues around the same time the battery was starting to fail, so the moment you bump it, it disconnects and causes the device to turn off. It also just refuses to connect half the time when you plug it in. Gotta jiggle it, blow into it, shake and hit it a bunch of times, and pray. I’m pretty sure it’s the tablet’s side that’s the problem because changing chargers did nothing, and the charger that came with the problem tablet worked fine on another Surface. Gotta love when companies make the fragile part of the connector apart of the $2000 device that’s sealed shut with glue and put the more robust part on the cheap and easily replaceable charger.

It’s also really bad at going to sleep. Way too many times I’ve closed it, put it in my bag, and when I take it out it’s scalding hot and the battery is nearly drained. It’s your own device Microsoft, running 100% your own software. How the hell do you fuck it up?!

Worst. Tablet. EVER. And probably ruined any potential that laptop-replacement tablets once had, which is a shame because I still like the tablet form factor.
