I gave up on looking at the number score years ago. When games get dinged for having a lousy story (which I always skip given the chance) or not supporting multiplayer (which I’ve used maybe a handful of times and even then just to get the trophy) a number score is meaningless.

Sure, these are good things to talk about in a review because sometimes it matters and helps set an expectation, much like, oh, just about everything else. Just lay it all out there and let me decide what’s important before I jump in.

Of all the technical challenges involved in doing what ISPs do, updating their billing process should be among the least “hard” things on the list. They just don’t want to do it.

The differences and implications are important, and it’s hard to make a convincing argument if your base premise is incorrect.

Fiat money via WIkipedia:

Fiat money can be:
* Any money that is not backed by a commodity.
* Money declared by a person, institution or government to be legal tender,[5] meaning that it must be accepted in payment of a debt in specific circumstances.[6]
* State-issued money which is neither convertible through a central bank to anything else nor fixed in value in terms of any objective standard.[7]
* Money used because of government decree.[2]
* An otherwise non-valuable object that serves as a medium of exchange[8] (also known as fiduciary money).[9]

Doesn’t have to come from a government. Crypto is three of these. The article even starts with “Fiat money is a type of currency that is not backed by a commodity, such as gold or silver.” Nothing about government there either.

I’ve been using Remember The Milk for years. I get daily notifications by email (doesn’t mean I always do them) and there is an app but several features do require a Pro subscription.

You don’t have to use it “only in my own household”, just need a Wi-Fi connection (though it would probably be more laggy anywhere else). And not every phone supports PS5/DualSense – Android 12 is required for full support; mine is version 10 and isn’t getting any more updates.

I had my own office for a couple of years. The commute, and the rest-of-the-office environment, isn’t worth it.

I miss classic arcade style games and puzzles.

I want more games like Resogun and Geometry Wars. And I’d love to see more of Archer Maclean’s Mercury.

I hate the overwhelming number of currencies and crafting supplies. I shouldn’t need to have to gather so much of this thing and so much of this other thing (neither of which are labeled clearly, what they are and how to find them) to craft things. A small number of things makes sense, e.g. metal and powder to make ammunition, but when this potion requires 5 different plants and that potion needs 7, only some of which are common between them, it’s an unnecessary time suck.

Then, when I have an abundance of various supplies, I have to go to the blacksmith to repair my armor, run over to the jeweler to craft bigger gems, then go to the chest to stash things, go over here for various upgrades, and over there to craft the next potion I need. Why can’t all these things be in one place or at least right next to each other instead of scattered all over town?

Still playing Diablo IV (just hit level 72) and Puzzle Quest 3 (because functional addiction, which probably applies to Diablo IV as well).

Oh, and Cookie Clicker – 459 days and counting.

They’re just following the naming convention established by Windows: 1, 2, 3, NT, 95, 98, 2000, Me, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, 11

I’m 55 and I hate this. Yeah, I know, it’s satire. So is mine. Kinda.

Classic arcade games:

  • Gyruss
  • Pengo
  • Mappy
  • Frogger

And just for good measure: Lemmings

I’m currently playing Diablo IV and I generally refuse to use the healing stations and stat-boosting shrines scattered around the map. I guess I want to save them for later in case they don’t respawn or something. I also don’t know what the shrines do until/unless I hit them so I don’t know if they’re worth triggering or not. I’m getting by without them so far, so it’s okay, maybe?

It’s not all that uncommon, but I’m pleased with my platinum trophy for Beat Saber. That was for the PS4 version – I’m still working on it for PS5 and dealing with the different controllers, being out of practice, and just getting older/less coordinated.

My rarest platinum trophy is for Sports Champions, back on the PS3. Sony claims 0.1% for getting that one – even PSNProfiles tracks it to 0.51%.

Is/will there be a movie/TV equivalent of BookWyrm, something to track and discuss what you’ve been watching? A quick search tells me it’s been discussed and seems like something people want but it doesn’t look like it’s been done yet, at least not as a dedicated service. Is that right?
