I don’t usually recommend this channel, but Mother’s Basement has a really excellent video that discusses Neverending Story near the end (he spends most of it talking about DBZ).

It seems almost like a horror twist, discovering that the movie is basically embodying the antagonistic force in the book.

I agree on the basis that classics are defined by reception and not if they are any good or not, like how Birth of a Nation was for a while considered basically the best movie ever.

Were the zombies not killing any human in sight in the book?

It’s weird because Roschach still comes across as a disturbed weirdo, but he definitely ends up being turned into a more murderous version of the fascist interpretation of Batman.

I think the book was written to be satire and the movie is, uh, comedic but in a much less pointed way

Not a book and not a movie, but that Cabinet of Curiosities series adapted a couple of HP Lovecraft stories and it was fucking terrible. There were a couple of beats that were interesting, but generally it was very faithless and the changes were for the worse. There were some excellent episodes otherwise, but I can’t help but feel that they are just butcherings of much better stories that I haven’t read.

Politically, it’s way less bad than you’d expect, I’d recommend watching it. One of the best episodes had – to someone as brainrotted as me – an incredible hybridization of classic horror and battle anime logic. That one was probably my favorite one, though there was one where the protagonist looks just like the Disco Elysium guy and kind of acts like him too, and it was fun.

P.S. did you know that there are movie adaptations of Ayn Rand’s drivel? If you are masochistic, they might be fun to watch

The US without imperialism is like a leech that can’t parasitize. Of course people are trying to maintain good relations, but that is especially due to the fact that the end result will be destructive and they don’t want the US to get rowdy while it still can.

You’re gonna need a better source than Wikipedia, which has a ridiculous level of slant against the DPRK (look up “Propaganda village” if you need convincing)

Yeah. Most of what I did was fake organizing, straightening, tagging, etc.

No, because a) blackmail is just a very poor business model in this case and b) most people don’t stand to lose that much over a misdemeanor, especially since the prostitute would also need to prove her case, the John can sue for libel if she fails to, etc. etc. Anyone scared of the fringe chance can just not go, but most people who otherwise would want to go would probably still want to go.

North Korea was shut down anyway, it took a long time for them to have their first covid outbreak and I think when it finally did happen they did shut down.

Also, I am glad you have come out so strongly in favor of the PRC approach, or so I must convlude.

Yeah, looking busy is way more important than being productive a lot of the time. You always need to be doing something, so you just go through the motions of doing things because otherwise you’ll get shit from your employers. Waiting in good faith for more real tasks to emerge isn’t enough, so you must invent chores.

At least, that was very consistently my experience in retail.

You asked me to give you an argument. What sort of argument are you asking for? What conclusion am I supposed to be asserting?

If I did something worth reading about, you’d condemn it just like you do all the other socialist projects, so don’t get your hopes up.
