Been meaning to check out Wallabag for some time now. How easy/ difficult is it to setup your own instance?

Spotify - Music

VLC - playing local video/ audio files

Firefox - Web Browser

Waze - Navigation

Signal - Messaging

Jellyfin - Accessing my movies and TV shows

Tailscale - What I use to access my Jellyfin when I’m away from home.

CamScanner - Very handy for scanning/ digitizing physical documents.

Speedtest from Ookla - I use it a lot to check my internet connection

Shazam - Music detection

PhotoScan - one of the only Google apps I use, let’s you easily scan/ digitize old photographs

Bitwarden - Password Manager

Yes exactly, thats what I want from my Lemmy experience. I dont want it to be addictive. The way it is now is honestly so refreshing. I find I am checking my RSS feeds for news and stuff now. I only go on Lemmy to see stuff I want to see. Not stuff that worsens my mood.

I would occasionally watch them if I’m flicking through channels etc, but they wouldn’t be my go to source.

I use RSS readers. Specifically Feeder on Android and QuiteRSS on laptop/desktop

I want to like Al Jazeera, but they are owned by the Qatar government so I am dubious of them.

I use Feeder too.

Feeder for Android and

QuiteRSS on my laptop/ Desktop (yes it’s old and kinda ugly, but it has all the features I like is very solid).

NPR

PBS

BBC

Reuters

AP

(My state owned broadcaster RTÉ)

Other news sources are fine, but I prefer to double check these if I am uncertain.

Also Democracy Now! Is pretty good too.

Spotify for music. I like the UI and the fact I can use it on all my devices.

Steam for games. I like that I can have progress synced across my Steam Deck, laptop and desktop.

Waze for maps and navigation. I like being able to report things on the road and update fuel prices etc

Where I live in Ireland, multiple towns near me have new nail salons setup for manicures, pedicures etc. Thing is though, almost all of them have big signs up saying β€œcash only”. A lot of the time its not busy or they have no customers yet new ones open up every month. Its almost certainly a front. The cash only thing is likely so that its easier to avoid tax or launder money. The government was looking to make cash only businesses illegal and must be able to take card payments too, but that legislation is probably a few years out yet.

The noise of the engines tends to help me. Same with sleeping on a long car journey. They hum or white noise or whatever of the engine and the road really help. Also why I like to sleep with a fan on. Not only to help cool down. But also because the noise really gets me to fall asleep sooner.
