I’m not an expert on this, but the fediverse is just a collection of things that can all communicate on a federated standard. It’s just like email, you can use whatever mail provider you want but you can email anyone else using email.

I guess your question is kind of like “are there other emails?” - and yeah, I guess there are other platforms where you can communicate and send messages, but they aren’t email.

I’ve taken the time to annoy the senders. If they come with a prepaid “business reply mail” envelope you can use this in two ways:

  • rip up everything except the envelope into small pieces. Put that into the envelope and mail it back to them.
  • if you’re dedicated: get a box and fill it with bricks. Tape the envelope on the box and mail it back to them.

They have to pay the postage either way, but one will cost a lot more than the other.

I got a firstlast.me domain for myself, if it’s a personal or portfolio site I think that’s a good choice as well. It was also a bit cheaper than some of the “specialty” TLDs too.

I still use my gmail, but a favorite email I saw someone use once was himself@name.com - I though that was perfect but also hilarious

Adobe Illustrator over Inkscape. I thought I’d save some money and learn Inkscape but it’s just too weird an un-intuitive, sometimes buggy too. Key combinations couldn’t be mapped to work like Illustrator which I was used to, so it’s frustrating to work with because you know what it should be able to do, but now to have to figure out what Inkscape calls the feature and what menu that might be in.

Same for Photoshop over Paint.NET or anything else. Photoshop is still the master at layered image manipulation for all sorts of things. I use it for Web/UI mockup designs, and for photo editing in some cases. Nothing else can do this as well, and again it’s because I’m so familiar with it and it’s key combinations and features. Plus, now the new AI features are doing way more than I ever thought possible, it’s pretty impressive stuff really!

Great idea thanks! I’m pretty sure my N64 cable is broken and I wasn’t sure where else to look except a local game store which would probably charge a ton. Found on on Ali for $1.30, can’t beat that!

If you have old batteries or something like a UPS that is mostly a battery you can (and should) take it to a battery recycling center. A general recycling center near me does that, but also some stores like Best Buy will collect and recycle them too. Years ago I dropped off a non-functioning UPS there and it was super simple. I would have felt terrible throwing that away in the trash.

I had looked into Reolink a while back and that seemed like a great option to me. Upfront cost and setup seems like the biggest hurdles, but probably worth it in the long run. Thanks for the recommendation!

So what is a good camera system to own? I currently have ADT and I’m really not happy with it. It’s expensive and the cameras only record 30 second clips. It can detect motion, it records 30 seconds and that’s it, regardless of how long the motion event actually takes.

Example: someone drops off a package and they hang out on my porch - I have no idea what happens after the 30 second mark! It’s insane. No way to change this either. The only option is for how long to wait between 30 second clips, and the lowest option is 2 minutes.

He has several, I’ve read “The Art of Deception” and “The Art of Intrusion” which are both fantastic and interesting reads. He has another in the “Art of…” series and possibly others too.

Where does one find wefwef? A quick search didn’t give me anything obvious, and it’s not on the app store
