I hate to say it, but probably Binging With Babish.
I still love his channel, and he still puts out great stuff with some great employees, but he’s moved away from his core theme and more into being a celebrity chef that makes standard meals, often butchering them.
His attempts at Poutine and the Full English Breakfast were abysmal, and showed almost zero effort or research, basically offending two countries. He also tends to veer away from accuracy, and more towards “his best take” on something from a show or movie. Finally, the stuff he makes that looks great usually requires the kind of equipment and kitchen tools that someone with several million followers on YouTube and a bustling media empire could only afford…
I love the guy, but it feels like he’s regressing.
Because, more often than not, we have a very hard time determining whether someone is truly an expert, or just good enough to do the job.
Even if you found them, more often than not their motivations aren’t to work for megacorp in a major city. They might be married, with kids, and enjoy where they’re currently at. They might be happy enough building shitty web apps over working at a FAANG company. They might have tried working at the top of their career, realised it was more trouble than it was worth, and decided “nah, I’m good”.
Does the key hole extend to your side of the door? If so, the easiest solution is to put the key in the door. She’s not picking the lock if there’s something already in the hole.
Failing this, perhaps this is a call for you to find your own space. A new door isn’t going to magically make things better, and for narcissists, living under their roof will mean that they should always have access.
I’m British, and I’ve had friends move to Australia and warmer parts of America in recent years. The first thing they comment on is how the move has improved their mood. Waking up to consistent sunshine and good weather puts them in good spirits, and inversely coming back to the UK and dealing with the rain and gloomy weather is a bit of a downer.
