This may not be at the top of my “excessive” list, but it’s the most recent. I bought a pair of ex-enterprise HP servers and a 32RU rack to hold them, so I could cancel my Netflix subscription.

Fuck man - it’s early Thursday morning in my timezone. Way too early to laugh out loud the way I just did!

And to think I was so excited to see Elba play Roland. What a disappointment.

Over here (Australia) we never stopped. Our coal lobby is simply too influential with our government.

Yeah, I’m pretty happy she’s enjoying it.

Until now, she didn’t seem hugely interested in the franchise, but Ahsoka was a great opportunity for her to see strong, female leads in a setting I enjoy.

We already have a really strong bond, but it’s given us something new to connect over, which is awesome.

Father’s Day here in Australia, but wife will be working. So my little girl and I are going to start the Clone Wars series together (she’s a new fan, after we started Ahsoka, and now wants to watch all the back story).

Already gonna happen - it’s Father’s Day here in Australia, and my little girl will be spoiling me with all the little gifts she got from the school Father’s Day stall last week. And we’re going to start the Clone Wars series together.

Yep - been driving for around 30+ years here in Australia (I’m late 40s). Grew up driving manual, have owned several manual vehicles, including my current one.

Yep, this works for me too.

As you said, taking the time to write down your thoughts, read them back, proofread, etc, gives you time to cool off. When you’re calmer, you’re better able to engage your critical thinking skills, and that’s usually when you realise the person isn’t worth it or they may have a legitimate reason for thinking differently than you.

Sometimes I react adversely, but intentionally so, when I feel a point needs to be made. I had one person take it badly that I use dark mode and a particular screenshot I posted wasn’t suitable for people with vision impairment. I took that opportunity to point out that, rather than playing the victim, they could just ask nicely. On the internet, just about all disabilities are invisible.

As with any human relationship, there’s a whole range of nuance missing that would be impossible for me to cover off here.

All I can say is that, as she’s reached old age, my mother’s become quite the doting grandparent. All the bullshit my siblings and I have a problem with aren’t present when she’s with her grandchildren.

For whatever reason, your comment made me think of that scene in Big, where Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia dance on the floor piano.

Not sure why. Probably the thought of people doing something moderately wacky and fun in everyday life.

You know, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit. They’re just not trying hard enough to be a good pizza joint.

I’m not having trouble giving up Reddit. I’ve given it up. And I’ve definitely noticed the lower volume of content here on Lemmy/the fediverse, but:

  • it’s getting better pretty much daily; and
  • the percentage of good quality content here far exceeds Reddit, so I still feel better off.

Lol - wonder if this thread makes us a bunch of Karens.

In no particular order:

  • Reddit (obvious reasons)
  • My local KFC (three strikes on really, really shitty order fulfillment via Uber Eats, no fucks given when complaints lodged)
  • A pizza chain here in Australia - La Porchetta - for sucking people into a loyalty program where the points couldn’t be redeemed via their shitty app
  • All social media sites except LinkedIn (there’s still moderate value in professional networking) - I’ve even extended my boycott of Shit Tok to banning it on my home network (much to my teenagers’ chagrin)
  • G2A.com because they fucked me over on a Xbox Live 12-month key after alleging my PayPal account was deemed a “payment risk”, yet they still spam me with emails on a weekly basis
  • Netflix after they said they’d still charge me for password sharing when my stepkids use our account at the dad’s place, even thought they’re part of my household

Boycotts I’ve ended:

  • My mother (not a nice person, but my daughter deserves to have a relationship with her last living grandparent)

Boycotts I wish I had the strength/ability/motivation to implement:

  • Big tech
  • Nestle
  • (my daughter’s use of) Roblox

My take was that it was the fact that he doesn’t do sponsorship, so you never have your content interrupted by them crapping on at you about NordVPN.

Video games? Space Invaders on my mate’s Atari 2600. Asked for (and got) one that very Christmas.

Board games? That’s a tought one, but I reckon Talisman 2nd Edition, which my uncles had a copy of. Played maaaaany hours of that game.
