I thought your post said games for a second there and was excited to hear about synthwave games

I think it’s going to get more and more challenging due to how many games are focused on online play. If co-op or multiplayer servers are shutdown a lot of the time it comes down to fans to recreate them.

I’d highly recommend checking out this PCGamingWiki page about GameSpy server replacements if you are into that kind of thing.

Even with these mods you still run into the issue of needing either players or bots and whether or not to archive all game altering updates.

I would say MagiPacks might be an even better example primarily because they deal with older games. They also operate along the GOG logic of ensuring games run on modern operating systems but they do it by bundling in commonly used fan patches.

It’s a shame they don’t have a sex based reputation system like Fallout 2 did.

Nice. That’s one of those games I wish I got into at the same time as my friends. Portal co-op looks like a lot of fun

Have you played since the release of the Wastelanders DLC? I’ve heard that was the turning point for a lot of people

If you read the title of the article you’ve read the article. It doesn’t really elaborate on it anymore than that sentence.

Did you two play much afterwards? I’ve played a few times with friends but I find it usually fizzles out after a couple months then it’s just me who hosts occasionally messing around.

I think for me it’s going to end up depending on the modding community and how linear the game feels.

I played The Outer Worlds due to the hype around Obsidian releasing a game but it just felt kind of flat and lifeless. Maybe it’s just because it seems similar in atmosphere but I’m worried Starfield is going to end up feeling the same.

I’ve been reading the news through some RSS feeds I have setup. Other than that I’ve been looking for a decent offline game to play. I have a few that I’ve player in the past but none of them are particularly great for those awkward periods of time at home when I have 15 to 30 minutes to spare.

There’s no single player game you played because your friends were hyping it up?

No Man’s Sky. It looked slow and grindy but people kept hyping it up. I caved, and forced myself to play 20 hours trying to find the good bits. I never found them.

That’s a game I tried as well but I feel like I set myself up for failure by trying to see everything the beginning of the game had to offer versus exploring naturally.

Even then I’d argue the lines are blurred with so many online marketplaces going down and how secondhand games have exponentially increased in price.

As far as I’m concerned emulation is the solution to this but I could see it being a hurdle for those that do want to play them legitimately

I guess I meant it more so in the fear of missing out on something culturally relevant. Whether it’s a modern multiplayer game like Destiny 2 or a classic that is frequently referenced like Half Life. Not being able to be part of the conversation when it’s brought up

I get what you are saying but a lot of the time it’s just a mediocre experience and I’m not necessarily disliking it. More indifferent than anything. Occasionally a game has made a pretty solid turn around in the last act

When you put it like that yeah but I was forcing myself through games I wasn’t necessarily enjoying.

What games have you played due to FOMO?
FOMO stands for Fear Of Missing Out. I've tried playing some JRPGS because they are considered classics and detective games like LA Noire before realizing the genre just wasn't for me. I've also been stuck in the mentality of if I want to play a game in a series I need to play the prior games. I'm doing this currently for Deus Ex, the Witcher, and Splinter Cell. I guess I'd consider that FOMO to a degree. *Edit: I meant FOMO as in the fear of missing out on something relevant. Not necessarily something that is intentionally being time limited like raids or micro transactions.*

Here’s a photo taken from their website.

The triggers look like they would get very tiring to use. There’s also only two so you wouldn’t be able to play PSX.

Sometimes the portability is nice.

There’s also a ton of emulation handhelds out there that can likely do the same thing with better firmware for around $100. Look at the RG35XX or the Miyoo Mini. Both devices can play up to PSX.

That’s why it’s specifically paid content that is now free. You wouldn’t be able to play a majority of free games available online or watch YouTube.

Physical objects like groceries aren’t media you consume and wouldn’t fit into the public domain.

Is video games included?

Yes out of the two examples I gave one was StarCraft which is a game.

If software is included I’m pretty sure you can’t really use any electronic devices, since I’m unaware of any now public domain oses that aren’t huge vulnerabilities.

I wouldn’t consider an OS or game system content that you are consuming. Unless you are really just into screensavers.

If Mircosoft were to fully collaborate with the Linux/open source community what would the resulting Linux distro chimera look like and how would it affect the Linux community in general?
I am aware of the Linux subsystem and projects like [Linspire](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linspire) and [ReactOS](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReactOS) that attempt to either better compatibility between the two OSs or replicate the other but I was wondering if Microsoft were to open source the entirety of Windows what the ramifications on the Linux community would be. Would WINE and Proton's development rapidly accelerate? Would they be necessary? Would Windows tools like their file explorer become dominant over others in the Linux space? Would things like NTFS be installed by default in most distros? [exFAT](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExFAT) also seemed to be (or was) in a weird legal position. Do you think a lot of people and businesses would jump on a chimera distro that was half and half? --- Bit of a weird question I know but I wouldn't even know how to word it for a web search. I could also be missing a lot due to my knowledge level on licenses and compatibility projects. It doesn't have to be Linux specific either. If you wanted to mention how it would affect BSD or other OSs I'd be interested to hear about that as well.

Where can I find save files of PC games online?
In the mid 2000s I had a few sites that I would occasionally get save games from but I cannot recall what they were and I'm not sure they would have survived in the same way ROMhacking.net did. I was playing Max Payne 3 on my PS3 but unfortunately was experiencing consist crashes in chapter 5. It's a great game but I would prefer not to replay it now that I own the PC version. --- Here's an extra tip by the way if you ever want to manually back up your saves you can check the PCGamingWiki page and it will list where the save file is located. [Here](https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Max_Payne_3) is an example for Max Payne 3. The PCGamingWiki will often tell you fixes to common bugs, quality of life improvements, and how to setup a controller as well. Really useful for older games. The same tweaks should also work on Linux a majority of the time.
