Exactly. I’ve been playing Bethesda games for ages, news like this makes me happy they’re keeping the stuff that works.

Because - and this is the only real answer you’ll get - Starfield is “cool” and “normies” are looking forward to it. Therefore, the “real gamers” must hate it, ESPECIALLY before actually playing it.

Same shit you see in any niche community. Buncha nerds hating on anything too big or popular.

Yeah but they think “racism” is “saying ‘colored’ instead of ‘African-American’”. Like they totally fail to grasp the severity of Deep South racism. They think hardcore racism is something that happened in the past, that we as a species have moved on from it, and surely (surely!) hysterical accounts like this are just gross exaggerations.

People who grew up in left leaning cities refuse to believe me when I point it out. Just flat out refuse.

There are levels of anonymity. You can get private enough that only certain government agencies with well funded budgets and motivated agents can find you. That’s waaaay beyond what 99% of people need.

Also there’s a whole generation of people who never knew the early internet, when privacy was the default.

The issue at play is the big corporate companies

I’m guessing you weren’t around before these guys ate up the internet?

The issue at play IS the big corporate companies. Period.

Modern web usage has allowed for better accessibility to all ages and types.

One could argue that this is part of the problem.

I have delayed sleep phase disorder so I’m one of the ones who got it. Nights are amazing, I function so much better and feel so much more energetic.

But it’s tough on your career. You will never move up working nights, because the faces the bosses see are there during the day. Sucks but that’s how it is.

Communism almost inevitably leads to dictatorship though. History has proven this. Capitalism can at least coexist with democracy to a degree. For all practical purposes, communism and dictatorship are a package deal.

because in your terms beehaw/lemmy is dead

Huh? No, I’d say the opposite, the fediverse is in the sweet spot right now.

  1. I love that “kbinauts” is gaining traction

  2. I wish kbin made it more obvious what instance a given thread in your feed is from. If it’s from lemmy, I know I can post memes and I should be prepared for flame wars. If it’s from beehaw, I know I can have a thoughtful and respectful conversation. I’m okay with either, but I don’t want to accidentally write an essay on lemmy that no one will read, or pick a fight on beehaw with someone who had no ill intent.

If it’s from kbin I know we’ll spend some time talking about how great everything is and how we’re all just stoked to be here 😁

There’s a sweet spot. A dead forum is of no use to anyone. Reddit had a good few years where there were enough users to have a good exchange of information, and not a sea of low effort posts. I think it all changed when they started advertising their app and “new reddit” on Facebook.

Beehaw in particular is difficult to find the correct syntax to search on kbin. If you’re signed into your kbin account, and you enter the url https://kbin.social/m/technology@beehaw.org you’ll get to this community. Likewise, https://kbin.social/m/science@beehaw.org is the beehaw science community, etc

As for finding communities in the first place, I just open a new tab and go to https://beehaw.org/communities
