Finding community in the modern age requires you to get interested and participate in something specific. Specific communities are often on Discord or equivalent, for example I’m super into some very specific video games with thriving communities, into specific genres of books and have found like minded people, love chatting about specific computing topics, etc. Specialize your interests and find others who have done the same

How does the whole vampire thing work anyways? Like if there’s a hole in the wall breaking the integrity of the house are they still barred? How much of the house can be removed before it’s no longer considered a house? A whole wall? In that case could the police vampire just drill a hole or remove a wall?

Sometimes people do things they know are wrong. Beating one’s child is pretty goddamn obviously wrong.

The irony of your post is that it would apply well to the child who indeed should be taught instead of physically abused (punished).

But why should society let abusers decide what the abused learn when the lessons being imparted are almost always self-serving.

We all make mistakes, we are all human, but sometimes the mistakes we make should have consequences that prevent future errors. Drive drunk? You shouldn’t have a license or a car. Shoot up a school? You shouldn’t have a gun, be near schools, or really even be in general society. Beat your child? You shouldn’t be around children

Nihilist, insofar that even if there is a god (about as likely as me actually being a secret agent for moon people) why would it matter? While nihilism is not a religious belief I think it fits the prompt.

I made a poop the other day, I’m its creator, I don’t care about it, I don’t control its destiny beyond the flush.

I’m an optimistic nihilist, nothing matters and that’s kinda neato. Existence happens, how fascinating is that? It’s absolutely meaningless just like everything in the universe, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the ride.

For me when somebody apologizes a lot it feels as though there is a subtle belief that I am the type of person who would be annoyed by the things being apologized for. As though their apology implies that I am an impatient or otherwise short fused person.

It’s important to me that I am patient and forgiving so excessive apologies subtly make me feel like I may be projecting some impatience. Ironically the very activity of constant apologies does lead me to be slightly impatient, quite the conundrum.

The acab movement has caused more harm than it has salved. Furthering the ideas that there are no good cops means that nobody good will become a cop in the future, furthering the issue

Only band kids go to heck, their eternal punishment? Only sequels, no original film or book or tv show, just spin offs and sequels forever

Your environment has a tremendous impact on your emotions, in many cases depression is simply a chemical issue, kinda like a thunderstorm. Not much to do but prepare and seek shelter.

If you’re seeking to avoid general non chemical sadness then you should try to be around loving and kind people as much as possible, and seek solace in solitude when that’s not possible. Better thought patterns can lead to better outcomes as well.

Easiest way to figure this out is to analyze your own behavior when interacting with people you’re not interested in.

Your brain is inconsistent, use external tools to stay focused on your core thoughts better. Pick some thoughts that you want to stick with long term, I choose metacognition as my primary default thought topic, then if I need to redirect from something unpleasant I switch to that thought track.

Metacognition is a marathon, there isn’t one clear better methodology to improve everything about your thinking process, stay open and curious!

Do you think isolated communities could come up with reasonable resilience strategies? Can a mutual aid subculture exist for a long time within our current system as well?

More than fair, how much effort do we put in to make sure the ants have a comfortable life? Or even further, the tardigrades? I am on the optimistic side, hoping that a superintelligence holds a benevolent nostalgia/amusement for sentient life if it does indeed come to that.

There’s a chance that asi doesn’t happen and we stall indefinitely on a simple token prediction system, in which case the disruption could be limited to what we’ve seen already?

How can we prepare for ASI
Artificial Superintelligence, AI systems that are more intelligent than humans across every domain, may or may not be coming soon What could we do to prepare now for a future where it has arrived? I have been considering: - starting local community groups - updating my investment strategies to be more resilient to market disruption - diversifying personal income streams - staying up to date with the latest news and learn to better use the latest tools/technology - upgrading personal skills towards the harder to replace industries It's a bit difficult to imagine a truly "safe" way of life. Barring UBI and more progressive taxes it seems like it may be quite challenging for the average person to exist comfortably. Some industries that are already impacted at the level of technology we _already_ have - programming - ui design - creative writing - technical writing - customer support - graphic art - data analysis I think almost every other industry is at risk of significant disruption. A capitalism based society will always stray toward the cheapest option, "if AI can take customer support calls for $1/day and customer satisfaction doesn't dip, why would I pay a person $150/day?"

Cat cafe, you can chill in there for ages slurpin on coffee surrounded by the lil gremlins

Raised mormon, did the mission thing, moroni’s promise was bullshit so I switched to general christianity, realized that it’s just another brand of bullshit. Currently agnostic/atheist/who cares.

IF there’s a god, he’s not a fucking primate with a sphincter- humans are so freaking narcissistic to think the “ultimate” being of all time is just like them.

IF there’s a god, why would he be omniscient/omnipresent? You created this post, do you actively control how it interacts with people’s minds?

IF there’s a god, and he’s the christian idea of a god, he’s evil. No loving being would send their “children” to a test (omniscient, knowing the future) knowingly sending them to a place where the result would be them suffering for eternity.

IF there’s a god, their existence doesn’t answer the question of where we came from, what came before god? If your answer to this question is “god just always was” you’re an idiot who missed the point.

Yes however, they also have access to your keyboard in realtime with getAsyncKeyState or event hooks in windows at least, so I’m not sure that’s a strong argument.
