Black Books!

Best show

Was going to say this, if no one else did

Bernard: [selling a book] Enjoy. It’s dreadful, but it’s quite short.

Love this one

Red Dwarf

Stoke me a clipper, I’ll be back for Christmas.

Spaced.

Friday Night Dinner.

Blackadder.

Upstart Crow is an excellent “period comedy” too.

Coo - I’m a big David Mitchell fan and never even heard of this. Thank you.

Mike: Aren’t you coming in with me? Tim: I’m not your dad, Mike! Here’s your sandwiches. I’ll pick you up at five.

Probably not what you’re looking for, but it just occured to me that Ted Lasso might be the closest modern show to this sort of cosy/wholesome British sitcom.

Also if you want something really on the nose, I seem to remember enjoying Rev:

Edit: bonus recommendation for The Royle Family

Said it before i could!

If you’re sticking with that period of English comedy. Vicar of Dibley

Coupling

The Mighty boosh

Spaced

Peep show

Peep Show is hilarious, but I would be loathe to call it “charming”. It’s mostly a “guy show” I think.

Coupling is a fucking gem. I’ve still never been able to bring myself to watch the final season that has no Geoff though.

Kim’s Convenience

Schitt’s Creek

Corner Gas - it’s my happy place!

Oscar Leroy: [reading a book] This title is misleading. Are they going to kill a mockingbird or not?

Detectorists was awesome.

Detectorists is a masterpiece. Everything about that show is warm-hearted. Not even Lance and Andy’s rivalry with Simon and Garfunkel ever turns truly nasty.

  • Doc Martin
  • Father Brown
  • Not Going Out
  • My Family

Why do the British seem to make so many of this type of show?

Sunday evenings.

Father Browne is a daytime show.

Its a crazily cosy murder mystery show if ever there was such a thing

  • My Family
  • Keeping Up Appearance
  • IT Crowd

Moss: “You’d best put seat belts on your ears, Roy, 'cause I’m about to take them for the ride of their lives!”

Only Fools And Horses

I downloaded this to show my Canadian SO, which has bedn delightful! We then caught Nicholas Lyndhurst voicing a hemulen in the Moomin kids show. I just wish I could show him young David Jason too, but we’ll get there …

As “Spaced” has already been mentioned, “Wasted” hits the same spot. Sadly it’s only six episodes.

Kingdom.

Stephen Fry stars as a small town solicitor in the eccentric town of Market Shipborough. It ran for three seasons from 2007 - 2009 and is thoroughly charming.

This sounds dope
