That’s not normal. My instance doesn’t do this.
I’ve never seen Lemmy do that. It strips metadata (location, etc) but otherwise doesn’t touch the actual image.
Are you using the default lemmy-ui website?
Maybe it’s part of your instance image policy?
Edit - Need coffee and weed before getting on Lemmy. I can’t read apparently and missed that you tried this on your own instance as well. My bad.
Never experienced that behavior. Do you want to post an example image here to check if it’s really stored that way or only displayed to you like this?
