HexBear lacks a downvote function. Our only option to show disagreement is to comment, which fosters discussion rather than burying those we disagree with and creating an echo chamber.
While I can agree that weβre often more abrasive than we have to be, I canβt abide accusations of gang harassment because we comment rather than downvote.
βFosters discussionβ is an interesting way of presenting most of what goes on at hexbear. Name-calling and abuse is not βdiscussion.β
Name-calling and abusing bigots and libs is the best discussion
i have literally never seen this. iβve seen a shitload of disingenuous abuse hurled their way, though.
The Memmy app has a feature to block an instance.

I use the uBlock Origin extension to block instances. If itβs available on your browser:
add this line (assuming youβre on lemmy.ml and hexbear.net is the instance you wish to block): lemmy.ml##.post-listing:has-text(@hexbear.net)

The Lemmy Connect app has instance blocking features.
You cannot, this is not yet implemented in Lemmy. The feature exists in some apps, but itβs essentially a client-side filter. For now, to really block an instance, youβll have to block the communities individually.
