'It's just laziness': Dog poop bags annoy Fredericton trail users
I live in Ontario, and this is also a huge problem here. The solution is to ban dogs from all trails except dog parks, because people won't change, and this problem extends to more than just other trail users; it also contaminates the land and water, too.

Higgs warned of 'too much power in premier's office' in 2018. His 2023 critics agree.
> Blaine Higgs began his term as New Brunswick premier promising not to run his government from the top down like he accused his predecessor, Brian Gallant, of doing. > "Today there is too much power in the premier's office," he wrote in a personal letter to voters during the 2018 election campaign. > "The Premier's office ends up making all the decisions. The voices of citizens and elected officials are not allowed to be as strong as they could and should be. I want to be the Premier who says 'No we don't do it that way anymore.'" > Five years later, with his government roiled by a series of cabinet resignations and firings and mounting accusations of his own tendency toward centralized rule, Higgs still maintains he is a leader who values different points of view and is open to learning from those who do not agree with him.

Homeless advocate calls for $1B-investment in public housing

Another N.B. cabinet minister quits as turmoil over Higgs's leadership deepens
>The turmoil within New Brunswick's Progressive Conservative Party was deepening Friday morning as another minister quit Premier Blaine Higgs's cabinet and four former top party officials demanded the premier resign. >Portland-Simonds MLA Trevor Holder, the longest-serving MLA in the legislature, announced in an open letter he was quitting as minister of post-secondary education, training and labour. >"Under the leadership of Premier Higgs, caucus has been less about consensus and more about him getting his own way," Holder wrote. Oof, Holder is a very long-time MLA. This one's gotta hurt.

New Brunswick premier open to leadership test, remains vague on early election call
My favourite part of the article: > Asked what the odds were of the province heading into an early election, Higgs told reporters, "I don't play the odds, actually. I don't. So, I'm not going to delve into an election philosophy." "I don't play the odds" gives me big "data my ass" vibes. I hope we data his ass out of office ASAP.

Conservative B.C.-based group sees N.B.'s LGBTQ policy change as test case for Canada
>And a conservative Christian group based in British Columbia says the debate is a test case for its efforts to roll back school LGBTQ policies across the country. >"Provinces across the country are paying attention to what's going on in New Brunswick because these decisions will affect the rest of the country," said Tanya Gaw, the founder of Action4Canada, which has been flooding New Brunswick MLAs with emails. >"I believe that this program needs to be eradicated from the school system nationwide," Gaw said in an interview. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/policy-713-nationwide-attention-1.6876528 Amazing, NB leading the way back into the middle ages! Rules and Guidelines

    1. No Bigotry

Including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia.

    2. Be Civil

Argue in good faith, attack the argument; not the person, and promote a healthy debate. That includes implying violence, threats or wishes of violence and/or death.

    3. No Porn

This instance is not made to host porn communities. You’re free to access porn communities on other instances through your account, but be mindful of Rule 4.

    4. Use the NSFW tag

Use your common sense: if you wouldn’t want this image to show up on your work computer, tag it as such. In comments, use the :::spoiler ::: tag for NSFW images, and put a NSFW mention beside links. Do not use NSFW images as your avatar or banner.

    5. No Ads / Spam

This instance is not there to act as your billboard. If you want to promote your personal work, at least make the effort to be a contributing member of this community. Your account purpose shouldn’t be to only advertise, make it natural.

    6. Bot account

If you are the operator of a “bot” account, make sure to flag is as such in the account’s settings.

    7. Right to privacy

Do NOT distribute the personal information of someone else without their consent (aka doxxing). Information that is public domain can be shared, provided it is in good faith.
ex: The official email of an elected official is fair, the private phone number or the real name of a non-public person is NOT.

    8. Report abuse

The report function isn’t labelled the disagree button. You might not agree with someone, but that doesn’t mean what the person says is against the rules. Using it repeately in this fashion will lead to actions being taken against the reporter.

    9. Impersonation

Don’t make an account with the intent to negatively deceive or defame someone on the fediverse.
ex: Parody of a famous person is okay, submitting outrageous content as appearing like another user, mod or admin isn’t.
